Processor Overload Error While Recording (Help Please)

Post by timothyclee »

I've been having some issues with DP lately and am in need of some help. I've got 3x8pre's hooked up to my macbook pro and am trying to record some live shows. I have only Mac OSX leapord installed and DP no other software is loaded, this is a remote recording only laptop. No plugins besides the stock DP stuff...anyways midway through recording I get an error message that says my processor is overloaded and some samples may have been dropped. If I lesten back I get static in all the tracks. I don't know why the processor would be overloaded??? I'm not running any plugins and am just tracking to disc I'll import it into my studio mac after the gig.

Thanks for your help.

Hey Tim,

You might try raising the buffer size to 1024.

Should this not kill the issue, you could disable the alert pop-up in DP's prefs, make a test recording or two, noting where you hear the pops, and checking that upon playback they're not there.

FWIW, the alert's been known to be conservative; it's indicative of MOTU's approach regarding the sanctity of recorded audio.

Hope this helps. :D

Your eqp't list does not include an external hard drive. If you're not doing so, you should be recording to one. Get at least a 7200 firewire drive. I don't know where in the chain it is supposed to go, but the 8 pre manual will probably have some info about that.

Also, if you're getting static, you may have clocking issues. Be sure the 8 pres are all synced to the same clock. I"m not sure, but you may need a separate master clock device with a 3-interface setup.

Be sure to turn off all networking software and to max out your RAM.

Hello ,
I am betting on clocks issue here . Can you elaborate on how are all your audio interfaces interconnected ? Do you have a world clock coax cable properly terminated between all of your audio boxes ?
