This is an interesting scenario, and it has me stumped; which is why I turn to the fantastic, collective minds of this forum! Here is the story. I just upgraded to the 828mk3 from the original 896. In the interim, I used a presonus firebox I had lying around which worked fairly well for single inputs, but now its time to do more. So I got all the drivers installed, updated the firmware, and loaded cubase 4 studio. I can see all the inputs and outputs in cuemix and in cubase, and I can listen to all my previous projects, monitor inputs, hear the inputs over my monitors, BUT when I go to record, no audio is recorded.
Quick info on my setup. AMD 64 X2 dual core 6000+, vista 64, 6 GB ram, and TI chipset firewire card using Cubase 4 Studio; latest build.
I tried using multiple inputs on the 828mk3; first using the analog unbalanced, then using the front panel mic/instrument jack, then using optical. Same results everytime. I can hear the audio being monitored, I can see the MAIN out and the input meter on the front of the 828 active, and I can HEAR the sound through my speakers which are connected to the main outs, but no sound gets recorded.
I checked my setup, checked sample rates, made sure I had the latest drivers for both cubase and MOTU; I do. I have just run out of ideas. I stared at cuemix for a good hour seeing if I missed something. Same goes for Cubase 4 studio. I can't figure it out. My firebox still works.
So any ideas?? I hope it is something stupid I am missing, but someone please enlighten me haha! Thanks in advance.
828mk3 outputs and inputs active; no audio records to cubase

funny thing is (although i'm not laughing
) i stumbled upon this board while trying to find a solution to the same exact problem... although i am using the 828 MK3 with nuendo 2, i have the same issue that you have with audio not recording while playback and everything (pre-recorded audio, the click and whatnot) works fine. I have done everything in my limited mental capacity (
) to resolve the issue to no avail... so hopefully somebody here at this wonderful forum has an idea of what could be going wrong....
help would be extremely appreciated!

Yeah, both out situations aren't funny haha, yet I am still laughing (on the inside of course). Well I have come to the conclusion that is an issue with the MOTU drivers. I had a similar problem with the original 896 and the latest MOTU 64bit drivers. except in that scenario, I couldn't open Cubase at all; it would just crash my computer. But in the case of the 828mk3 (using the same latest 64bit drivers), I can hear audio already recorded, hear the track I am monitoring, hear the precount and click track, see the input track active on my 828mk3, but nothing gets recorded. I imagine it doesn't matter what software we are using, so long as the ASIO drivers are being used, we are going to have this problem.BenCarrollGuitar wrote:funny thing is (although i'm not laughing) i stumbled upon this board while trying to find a solution to the same exact problem... although i am using the 828 MK3 with nuendo 2, i have the same issue that you have with audio not recording while playback and everything (pre-recorded audio, the click and whatnot) works fine. At this point, I am kind of getting frustrated. All the features seem really awesome, and I would love to integrate this in my studio. However, I really can't wait to figure this out. Luckily, the 828mk3 is less than a week old. I think I am going to send it back and go with the latest presonus Firestudio Tube. As far as I can tell, there is nothing that says vista 32bit only, and I have the presonus firebox, and that has 64bit vista drivers that work FLAWLESS. So with that note, presonus has yet to let me down... motu has twice =(
Its a shame because I feel like they really make a solid product with poor customer support and driver support. Oh well. If you do have any luck, let me know!

RA's New Full Length Studio Album "BLACK SUN" hits stores 09/09/08!!!
Hi guys - I am on an 828KmII, and I have the same problem. DAW just can't see any input on those channels, even though I can see and hear the inputs via direct monitoring. I am using driver 3.6.8.1133 (according to MOTU Audio Console).
Lots of people are saying they are having trouble with these drivers and Vista 64-bit.
Hopefully now that DP6 is out the team can put some more energy into supporting us. If not, I - like so many other disgruntled users - will be flogging off their MOTU gear and buying something that actually works.
