Problem with RADIKAL SAC 2.2 via MIDI vs USB
A while back I posted about the Radikal SAC USB driver not working under USB in Leopard (still doesn't in 10.5.3), so I bought a Fastlane and started using it under MIDI. It seems to run fine, but every so often- often enough that it's unusable- the SAC will spontaneously switch modes while I'm adjusting a fader. Not sure what mode it's switching to, but the sequence editor window starts scrolling, plugin windows start popping up, a lot of seemingly random stuff, and I can't reset it without switching the SAC on and off and resetting "Configure Control Surface..."
Anyone else experienced this and have a fix or a recommendation?
I've tried switching channels in the Fastlane (which seems to work fine, though I don't do any MIDI other than this).
Thanks!

I just added Leopard to a second internal drive, but haven't had time yet to run any apps, so I haven't yet encountered the SAC problem. But I'll post back here once I've had a chance to try it out.

Nobody, huh?
Maybe I'll try swapping out my MIDI cables

Gary,
Sorry to hear of your problems. I'm still on 10.4.11 so I can't help you directly. I've been disappointed with Radikal and also with their service dept. here in the US - I have two faders that aren't fully working. The SAC units were so cool when they were introduced and would still be excellent if given a bit of factory support. Here's hoping....

I'm more likely to stay in Tiger than dump the SAC for the time being- I still have no compelling reason to move to Leopard, and everything still works in Tiger.giles117 wrote:This is why I dumped my SAC 2K
Any chance we could form a group to pay someone to rewrite the USB driver for Leopard?

I might be interested, depending, of course, on cost.ghobish wrote:

Re: Problem with RADIKAL SAC 2.2 via MIDI vs USB
Billf-- please let us know if you have any problems with your SAC under Leopard (connected via MIDI). The possibility of Leopard making my SAC (which I use via MIDI in OS 10.4.11) not work properly is one of my major remaining reasons for still holding off on upgrading to Leopard (in addition to those audio problems under 10.5.2, which may or may not have been resolved in the new 10.5.3 upgrade).billf wrote:

What would be nice would be to get an open source project for this?

gary, I wonder if the motu driver file for the sac got corrupt? maybe try a fresh driver file?
i.e., --
Macintosh HD:Library:Audio:Plug-Ins:MOTU Control Surface:SAC DP Driver.bundle
I'm bummed to see the sac is flaky in Leopard (even w/ connection via MIDI), having not made the move yet since this is one of my key upgrade concerns.

To be fair, no one has yet confirmed that they are seeing the same MIDI issue that I am, and I see the same issue in Tiger, so it's as likely as not something on my system. What I'd like is to see someone update the USB driver for the SAC for Leopard. I don't know squat about programming, but the problem seems pretty fundamental- the unit reacts when the computer is started up and then dies early in the boot process (about the time the gray wheel appears in screen). It could be needing of changing just a little bit of code so Leopard recognizes it. It acts the same way when you boot from the Leopard startup disc.dbender wrote:gary, I wonder if the motu driver file for the sac got corrupt? maybe try a fresh driver file?

It is a fresh file from a fresh install.

The weather vane I'm using is a USB key in the SAC's USB hub. You can see it's LEDs light up and then extinguish.

Sorry for my late response to this but I am using a Radikal SAC 2.2 with Leopard and DP 5.1.3 without any problems. To use this device you don't have to use the drivers unless you want to use the built in USB hub. Connected via MIDI is all that's needed for the controller to work. It's rock solid and has native support with DP through the current release.

That's just what I wanted to know! I use it every day and I've never had a problem with it. I've been using this controller since Panther without any issue at all. As far as the USB controller, it's doubtful that it's USB 2.0 anyway so why would anyone want to use it?dbender wrote:That's just what I wanted to know!
