I just submitted a problem ticket to MOTU about this.
I'm trying to use both my Traveler and 828MkII simultaneously (at 48kHz) and am getting that dreaded squeal that MOTU supposedly fixed in the 1.05 firware update for the 828MkIII. If I set one device as the master clock or get clock externally (doesn't matter where clock originates), the other device seems to lose sync sporadically and introduce a very high pitched squeal into the signal path. I've tried every combination you can think of. It doesn't matter what the clock source is--I get the same result. Even if I have no audio routed to one of the devices I still have the same problem. So with audio coming out of ADAT outs on the 828MkIII and the Traveler just sitting there, within a minute or two the clock sync LED will flash and bounce around and then SQUEAL!!! I've tried disabling ADAT optical ports and that didn't work either. I know the design intent is for multiple firewire devices to coexist happily, but that is certainly not the case. I'm on WinXP SP2 using Cubase SX3. I have the V3HD firewire drivers and the 1.05 firmware update installed.
Any tips or similar experiences?
Is anyone successfully using an 828MkIII with a Traveler?
thanks,
Brad
