I'm happy with my 828 mkIII...ROLL CALL

Post by thabutcha »

just wanted to let you know.... :D

mine on the other hand only worked for three days, then the guitar input started acting wacky. i randomly get fuzzy crackly hissing and drop-outs in the input regardless of new audio cables.

Is any one having the same problem with the guitar input?

Also, i noticed, when i pluck a high E string on my guitar, the sound through the 828 sounds kinda digital wavy like, makes me think of jitter noise, or possibly bad converters.

Today, I was monitoring through the 828 mk3, and during the middle of a song, all the audio stopped, and then this horrible high pitched squeal came through every channel on the interface including the headphones, and blew out two tweeters in my monitors, and destroyed a brand new pair of $200 beyerdynamic headphones i just purchased and haven't even used for 15 minutes. Now I'm out of speakers, which is going to cost me $500 to replace. The headphones should still be warrantied, but the damage to my ears will never be replaced or compensated. I just might have to involve my lawyer in this one. I'll be calling MOTU Monday through Friday, all day, until I get an explanation and some sort of compensation. This is absurd that a company could release a product that obviously doesn't operate properly, and is actually dangerous to the consumer. I still have a ringing in both of my ears from the high pitched squeal.

From what I've read online, the bugs have been solved in the new firmware update, but apparently they haven't, and have actually gotten worse.

Learn how to use your equipment properly. Saying you're going to sue MOTU because of your incompetence isn't going to be taken well by us on this site.

oooh, don't nussle me up with your big incompetence.
moozakmike?

ha, i started producing in 1989 on the Cubit for Atari 520ST, but you wouldn't know what that is because it was before your time.
And you obviously work for MOTU.
AND MY LAWYER WILL GET INVOLVED IF NECESSARY.

I ACTUALLY CALLED A REPRESENTATIVE AT MOTU, I'M NOT GONNA MENTION HIS NAME, BUT I ASKED HIM SEVERAL QUESTIONS ABOUT THESE ISSUES, AND HE LIED THROUGH HIS TEETH ABOUT IT.

SO WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL? MOTU SUX, DON'T FEEL BAD ABOUT IT. GET OVER IT. I'M SURE THEY'RE REAL INSECURE ABOUT THEIR 828MK3 FLOPPING.

i also use the mkIII but am not entirly happy.
The high piched squeal needs to be fixed cuemix does not seem real intuitive but once i get my head around it that side will be fixed.
The mark II i still have workes flawlessly though.
I bought a Saphire Pro 26 but exchanged it for the MKIII as it did not seem to stay synced to my ada8000 units

First learn proper spelling, grammar, capitalization, punctuation and posting etiquette.

Second I'm sorry to hear that you used "cubit" on a 520ST. The 1040ST was a better platform for CUBASE (first called Pro Twenty Four). furthermore, if you were telling the truth you would have known that the name was changed to CUBASE from cubit before the product was shipped out.

I have had my mk3 for a day now and I'm happy. I was careful to upload all latest firmware and drivers before getting started as to avoid some problems I had read about here earlier.

So far, I have mainly used it as a standalone mixer and everything is working very nicely. I am awaiting a new macbook next week to replace my current laptop before I start seriously recording.

I had one issue has come up which I also saw in another thread; When I powered down my 828, I suddenly heard a very loud hum coming from my active monitors as was noted by some other folks. For now, I am powering down everything simultaneously but I hope another solution presents itself.

Hi rmack,

How does the back of your 828 look? Mine had the spdif and word clocks pushed up to the top of the cut out in the back panel, preventing me from putting a spdif cable all the way in. I gave it a little push down, now I can get the cable in. It's a tad lose now. Are your spdif and word clock right in the center of the cut out or are they positioned up or down. Just want see if mine is a result of a manufacturing defect.

Operation of mine is working good so far. Sounds really good.

I checked and the SPDIF and word clock all seem to be in center of the cut. If I wiggle them around slightly they seem to spring back to center.
I wonder if the PCB which they are attached to is dislodged from the case on yours. IMHO, if it's really loose, I would consider sending it back because, although it's a hassle, it may become a source of irritation over the years.

Thanks for checking your unit. My spdif and word clock can be pushed back into the unit a little, thought not too much. It's like they are not attached to the top of the case. I emailed motu, and I'll see what they say. Thanks again.

I've had the 828mkIII for about 2 weeks now and I've had this squeal issue occur numorous times. I spoke with Sweetwater tech support and MOTU yesterday and they both said that this is a known issue with the mk3 and they are working on a firmware update to fix it.

The problem is that sometimes it occurs like every 5 minutes. The only way to get it to stop (that I've found) is either turn off the 828, reset to the factory settings or reboot the whole computer. Any of these are a pain when you're trying to compose or record. Yet I've also used it for several hours without it happening at all[/quote]

despite the bugs the 828mk3 is a great unit.....it sounds very good escpecially converters compared to others in it's class (pre's have much left to be desired like every other built in interface pres), is highly versatile and the cuemix fx system is wonderful.

toughing it out through the squeal....hoping motu will step up to the plate and deliver proper drivers.
