Garbage audio with DP 4.52 and M-Audio Delta 1010

Post by galacticanthems »

I'm using a Delta 1010 system with DP 4.52 and a dual 2Ghz G5, and plenty of ram. The Delta worked great with DP 4.12 on my G4 but now with the G5 all I get is audio that plays back great for a couple of measures and then sounds like bacon frying and then cuts out altogether.

The weird thing is that the Delta system plays back audio from Peak and iTunes perfectly. And, M-Audio even replaced my PCI card when I first brought this to their attention.

I guess I'll switch back to internal audio (sigh) with DP. At least that works fine.

Anyone have any idea what's going on here?

Thanks!

Have you tried downgrading back to 4.5?
Mac Pro 12 core 3 GHz, Motu Ultralite, DP9.1, Mac OS X 10.10.5 64GB Ram.

Did you try a different work priority setting?

ok -

I had distorted garbled cracked sound asap when I tried MX4 the juno strings patch was the worst and most consistent - distorted and breaking apart - a couple of patches too. wheteher you played 1 note and attacked another or 4 nothes - couldn••™t handle the 4th note - when 2 or 3 notes initial sounds sometimes Ok but when you play the next series of notes or chords it would break apart - the patch is not that hot that my powerbook should not handle 2-3 notes at a time and then another 2notes or so andthen another .....

also happened very badly on a new 22' piece i was working on for 5 months when I bounced and then exported I got garbage distortion - only on the new stuff worked on in the upgrade - all 4.12 sound great!

I found out what the problem was, and it's weird!

I was watching Steve Jobs keynote address in Quicktime. I run a dual monitor setup and noticed that when I moved the QT window to the second monitor, the audio started to deteriorate immediately. I run DP with the mixer window in the second monitor, but when I got rid of the mixer and used it in the Consoliated Window in the main display the audio problem went away and everything works fine.

Anyone have any idea why this happened?

This may be related to something I just figured out related to using the "non-standard" firewire outs on the 828. It seems that the 10.3.8 audio/MIDI setup [core audio related] now has a feature where you do speaker assignments. This seems to have caused havoc with the firewire driver, but only if you are NOT using the main out 1-2, which is probably the case for your M-audio. If not, ignore my comments.
