Leo 10.5.3- General Reports
Hey folks:
Just trying to get some sense of how the new OS update is treating you in general.
I put up a thread in the DP forum for more specific reports with DP itself, but any confirmations for general OS improvements or gaffes are welcome.
Thanks in advance!

Found this about Adobe file corruption after the 10.5.3 update:
http://www.macworld.com/article/133691/ ... adobe.html
A number of questions come to mind:
1. Have those who installed Photoshop or other Adobe software **after** upgrading to 10.5.3 have the same problem?
2. Did any Adobe/Leopard users who have had this corruption problem upgrade to Leopard through Software Update or by installing the Combo Update?

My G5 and Mini are doing fine as well. Haven't run Finale yet, but all else seems great. A little trouble on the Mini in that it wouldn't shut down, wake from sleep or restart on command. But it turned out to be corrupted Bluetooth, Keyboard and Sharing plsts. Deleted the bad boys and restarted. All is great now.
Bit of a buzz over at the Apple discussions about Safari misbehaving for a few folks, but it's dare I say? (dare-dare) SNAPPIER!
BTW, how did your big gig go (was it yesterday?)

The Adobe issue is for files saved over a network, which I never do - so no, it didn't affect me. I'm using CS2, BTW.
As for combo v. software - I did both machines via update and then applied the combo to the mini when it wouldn't shut down. That didn't help and I had to chase the suckers down myself.
I'd go for it!

The gig was fine, actually. Man-- a lot of hard work preparing for it as well. The artist and I have already planned a new project, which is REALLY cool.
I have my own thoughts about how I'd like to improve things from my end, but everyone seemed so dad-blamed happy that I can't really complain too much.
Home for just 10 hours then off and gone again! It's nice to be home, though, even for a minute. Thanks for asking!

Installed 10.5.3 and the first good sign was that my desktop pic didn't change back to the nebula.
Gotta get on a plane now, but I'll dink around with DP5 during whatever free time I have this week on my laptop. Won't be able to do anything on my MacPro with all the fancy plugins for at least a week more. Don't have any third-party plugs on my laptop yet...

Well, it kind of works.Frodo wrote:Finale actually works?leigh wrote:So far, my Mac Pro, DP, Finale and everything else is happy and I haven't had anything unusual happen.
**LeighI'm half-kidding. That's really good news.
I'm downloading the Combo update now.
Thanks, Leigh.
Their implementation of Core Audio is broken: Finale only sends audio to the LEFT channel of external audio interfaces selected as Default in AudioMIDI Setup.
MakeMusic of course knows about this and, as usual, <irony> is very concerned and responsive about this problem.

My workaround was to run a stereo cable from the Built-in Line Out into my interface.
And of course, every time I start Finale, I have to change the Finale Audio Setup to use the Built-in Line Out because it thoughtfully uses the (broken) Default Output from AudioMIDI Setup.
As soon as MusicXML gets good enough to accurately move my current body of work, I'm probably going to switch to Sibelius.
But oh! My emeralds are so heavy! This is a minor inconvenience compared to the Osmiroid and White-Out!

I've never liked Finale's implementation of MIDI and Core Audio one bit, and for the amount of time Core Audio has been the Mac standard, they should have gotten this figured out long ago. It makes a decent app just miserable to use when more than notational basics are needed.leigh wrote: Their implementation of Core Audio is broken: Finale only sends audio to the LEFT channel of external audio interfaces selected as Default in AudioMIDI Setup.
