Motu 828III and Motu pre 8 - problems?

Post by Doctor »

Hi All,

Just purchased both sound cards to replace my Presonus Firepod. No matter what I try, I can not get the computor to recognize neither one.

I connected the Firepod, it's fine. Next a FireBox and the computer sees it fine, but when I hook up either of the motu cards, my audio/MIDI setup utility doesn't see either.

Help, help please.

thanks

Are there any drivers to install first?

Yes, I installed drivers from the disk that came in each of them, along with Audio Desk.

I've installed and re-installed those and some of the update downloads from the Motu site.

If anyone needs more info in order to help, just ask away.

Thanks for your response.

Hi Doctor,

G5's are notoriously buggy with the FW ports... try the following... The "15 minute, shut everything off, disconnect everything" solution, mentioned in the threads below or...

Restart holding down Apple-Option "O" (the letter) and "F".

At the grey Open Firmware screen type in the following (minus the quotes)

"reset-nvram" then hit return
"set-defaults" then hit return
"reset-all" then hit return

Your Mac will now reboot. Some settings such as your clock and display MAY be reset, but this essentially forces a logic board reset, and can often solve all sorts of weird FW issues...

Thanks sonsey,

Unfortunately it didn't help. I tried it a couple of times. Is there something else to try?

I'm just at my wit's end

Under the Apple choose "About This Mac" then click on "More Info". In the system profiler check under Firewire to see if the interfaces are even seen by the FW port (they'll show up as devices with weird names). If they ARE, then it's a software issue... Try uninstalling any drivers from the Firepod and all the MOTU drivers then re-installing. As a last ditch effort try doing the famous "clean install"of OS X...

If they AREN'T showing up then it's a hardware problem... since other things work on the port, I'd suspect the units themselves...
