Just installed my MOTU 828 MK3 on my PC and i love the unit.
Howerever, whenever i play audio every few seconds the audio stops and i get a high pitched noise, then tne audio continues.
This is happening with the 1.05FW and both on Vista 32bit and XP SP3 32bit. (same most recent driver)
Weird thing is that with the 64bit driver on Vista64 the problem is nearly gone (with heavy disk strain it comes back, but not as prominent as under 32bits)
So this seems to be a driver issue (i've done several clean installs and reset the unit several times to it's defaults.)
Is the VIA 1394 chip a bad choice for MOTU? or is my unit defect?
If i would like to try a seperate 1394 card what would you guys advise?

I've mentioned mine in this thread:
http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28449
and the guy from Sweetwater that posts here recommends a card in that thread as well.
As far as everything I've read, VIA chipset firewire interfaces are bad news. Not only for MOTU, but for just about every other FW audio interface that I've encountered. One of the cards mentioned in the other thread with a TI chipset should make you a lot happier.

I've just tested with DPC Latency Checker and yes, it's LATENCY...
however dissabling sveral devicedrivers get's it from yellow in the green area, but the peeks keep on coming every other second.
Weird thing remails that it works nearly flawless on Vista x64 (but i've got no MIDI driver for my AXIOM 25

Awaiting Firmware Update
Greetings,
Spoke with MOTU on Friday of last week -- they are aware of the issue and working on a Firmware update. It is a latency problem that becomes occurs with more frequency depending on the number of FireWire devices in your chain.
The DPC latency checker is the way to go in the meantime to try and reduce the frequency.

828 Latency RESOLVED!! (Vista 32)
I've resolved my latency problem
I went to device manager
Selected my Seagate SATA-II drive
right clicked > properties
choose policies TAB
clicked " Enable Advanced performance"
ALL latency issues gone, work now with 256kb samplesize and can run VST SX3 and mediaplayer while surfing on the internet without ANY problems.
The problem lays in the fact that if you have AHCI enabled for yuor disk controller (using the manufacturers drivers) you NEED to enable advanced performance otherwise you are in IDE emulated mode.
Try and let me know!
