Room Treatment
I;m going to be moving into a new house and I want to do some acoustical treatment for my new studio.
I;m considering either using GIK Acoustics or Primacoustic products.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Just a thought :
If you treat your room for highs and mid with special acoustic products, don't forget to treat for lows.
You won't be able to juge low frequencies if there are strong room modes, or flutter echoes, in this range.
Wood panelling is very effective in this purpose.

the gik 244 panels are amazing. shipping is expensive though. they really helped clean my room's sound. I also installed some auralex LENRD bass traps in the corners. the gik panels made a greater overall difference. they still helped though. I don't have a sub though, and my speakers are mid-sized nearfields. (dyn Bm5as)

I've just built my third production facility (all were for myself) and I used the Real Traps.

In the 15 years I have been recording full time these are the best I've seen for room treatments. They do the best job of controlling low end in the business. High frequencies are usually not a problem for treatments, but the low end as someone else stated is where the room is made or broken. I couldn't believe how fantastic they worked for my new setup. They are definitely not the cheapest, but where it counts they're worth the $.
Check out their comparison chart where they list the specs of their brand vs others.
And, no, I don't work for the company. Actually, if I did I would redesign their web site.
Give them a call, too. I called on a Sunday and I got a hold of one of the upper's. He was extremely pleasant and helpful. Good CS.

I have had an acoustic education and such but really, using simple angle and reflection understanding, there is no need of buying expensive studio acoustic treatment stuff.
Do urself a favour and flush those consumer wallet traps!
Start building away all the 90 degree angles and corners with the Ecophone acoustic stuff. This gives u basstraps and reflection traps in one! (Lowbudget: do it urself with Rockwool/Isover Piano or such and finish it with a nice cotton sheet cover.)
I promise u, this will do the trick!
Compairing to all the big shot major studios I worked and recorded at over the years, I never ever have recorded a better drum sound and fiddle sound as in my very own pro studio, that we buildt ourselves with the Ecophone solution.
Mind you: Drums and fiddles are nasty and greedy on acoustics.
As a fact: Room treatment can´t really just being calculated.
There are to many parameters and aspects that effects the acoustics.
It has to be done and tried out step by step, starting with hiding the angles and treatment of the opposite "mirrorwalls".
Hope u understand my explanations..
Use ur ears and clap ur hands, stamp ur feet, yell, hit the drum, whatever nessecary, and find the reflective surfaces/floor, walls and ceiling. Treat them.. But, only one at the time... No need of treating them all. Build to avoid reflections from one surface to the other (the opposite surface).
Good sound doesn´t really need to be expensive nor exclusively only for those with the bucks! Flush the myth!
Never ever let the "industry know hows" empty ur pockets for no reason!
And in case, after my advise, ur having problems having to many bucks left on ur studio budget, buy urself a great sounding analog console and sell ur outboard preamps. Than take ur family on a nice hollyday!
