Problems with Asus p5E onboard Firewire?
Hi All,
Just wondering is there a problem with onboard firewire with the Asus boards and the 828mk3 ?
I could not get it to work, and as I was reading through the forums people are saying that recomended to get Texas instruments dedicated card..
I keep getting an error message stating that MOTU device not found.
I installed all the latest 64bit firewire drivers but still no luck..
So do you guys think the Via Chip Firewire on board is the problem??
Vista64 / Motu MK3 / Q9450 / 4GB ram / 1TB HDD / Asus P5E X38 Chipset

Ok, well no one seems to have the same issue as us...
Basically the problem still persist error code "MOTU device not found"
These are the steps we took to try and diagnose the problem,
1. Changed 3 x firweire cards all of them Texas Instrument cards
2. Originall we had 64bit Vista so we formatted OS and tried XP Pro standard 32 Bit (same problem)
3. Changed total different PC altogther with a Intel board instead of Asus (still same issue)
4. Completely went through every driver & update on the MOTU drive still coming up with error
5. Finally just to make sure we even tried a few fire wire cables just to make sure that was not faulty.
MOTU Software seems to install but soon as you click on Cuemix or something like that comes up with a MOTU device not found...
All the Texas instrument cards we used show up in the device manager but soon as you plug the motu firewire in, nothing happens at all
any ideas ??? the units going baack anyways...
Would you say that this unit is definitely faulty???

As firewire chips are concerned, it's a bit of trial and error. You should try some other firewire cards, to rule out the firewire chip problem.
Looking at the threads here, more often than not it's the MOTU device that's causing problem, not the FW chip (if you followed MOTU installation procedure correctly of course).

It looks like we posted at the same time...
If you tried all that and the device wasn't working, then it's absolutely faulty, IMO. Even if it works on Mac, the device is still faulty if it doesn't work under Windows.
If MOTU devices work well only with Mac, than it's the case of false advertising, since there's no mentioning ANYWHERE on the site, box, instruction manual and/or any other documentation that it won't work with PCs.
It's cheaper to buy some other interface than to change computer, OS and all audio software. Not to mention the wasted time.
