Thanks for the ADVISORY vote. :D I can tell you that I've pretty much decided to change the name and at some point this place will not be UnicorNation any more. Of the alternatives, MOTUNATION.COM seems to be out front.

what really makes this website so special is the sense of community.
at the end of the day we come here because it's a great site, the name really is not that important.
I do like the idea of updating the name

[grumble, grumble] MotuNation [grumble, grumble]

:)

James, this name change thing - are you sure you're not suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? You know...because DP6 is late? I mean, I've made an appointment with a shrink myself over these dreams I've been having where all these PC users are surrounding me and looking at me through these "windows" and laughing while I try to nudge a MIDI note on the vertical axis. It's very distressing...
Success is just one more plugin away! And happiness is as close as your next upgrade.

James do you want to change the name because MOTU is getting away from the unicorn and you feel new people will no longer identify with the unicorn?
Poor unicorns they are being forgotten.

If you want to make a big change then go with MOTUWORLD as we are from all over the world.

It will be a sad day when the unicorn has been rendered hornless.

Oh well a changing hornless world is straight up ahead.

Basically, you're right, dude! Which is why I'm going to let it go after this post.

I've made my career out of belief in unicorns. But honestly, I'm not an evangelist! So if my arguments against changing the name are not persuasive enough, then so be it.

Although, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter what this forum is called, it seems a shame to change it to something ordinary/ dull and inorganic just to be 'sensible' or whatever.

But whatever it ends up being called I've never pondered so heavily on the subject of unicorns until subject started to come up here...

And it does make you think .... I mean about how they are portrayed in the 'media' I mean all we really know is they are horses with a bit spike on their foreheads. Well, as anyone who has ever ridden or been around horses knows, horses can be dangerous beasts - intentionally or not - even without a spike! Isn't horseriding (possibly 3 day eventing?) officially the most dangerous sport for injury/death?

Adding a spike (and in some cases wings!) is hardly going to make them any safer to be around.

... and yet in the media they are portrayed as rather effete animals, pastel colours, soft focus etc... I bet if you saw a real unicorn coming fast towards you, feeling (as you do) the ground shake slightly under their weight - even if only to get that nice half apple you are holding with no intent to do you harm - it would look a lot less effete!

Also one gets the impression unicorns must smell of .. I don't know .... oranges and cinnamon or something ... but I bet in reality they smell like ... horses and •••• - just like all regular horses do! (it's not such a bad smell - better than cars IMHO).

Anyway, I just wanted to challenge some conventional stereotypes of what a unicorn is .... and isn't.

:)

Me too, stiefel.

I meant every word I said from the bottom of my heart.
There's nowhere to go from there...

No worries Tom:
I couldn't select a resolution low enough to accommodate my 2k (typically) connection, and by the time I'd jumped in and out of the shower 15 times whilst making said adjustments, the liquid was gone.
I've no idea what colour it was, so I might have been pissing into the wind, and I might not have been. :?

Either way, the entire Unicorn community has been spared the horror that would've been a frenetic shower (ob)scene. :D

Yikes. I guess I wasn't paying attention. Indeed the horn should have come from the forehead... I must have been thinking about rhinos.

I don't deserve to be a unicorn anymore. We've got to change the name now!

Yeah all you wonderful DPeople, that's the problem I have with using Nation, it sounds so, well, parochial. That's why I thought something more international, global or even Universal, would be far more appropriate

Dang. I'd done a fine job of trimming and resizing that pic for next month's avatar.

Zed, are you able to make another?
Oh, and while you're at it, is it possible for me to receive a fatter horn?
