I've got the same issue, Gary. I submitted a service ticket today about this. I'm not feeling entirely confident about what they're releasing of late, based on my experience with this update and the current driver for this product.

I've got that same high pitch note on the Traveler. I'm on PC. Looking forward for an update.

How To - Firmware

Post by ChiantiM »

Spoke with MOTU Tech Support... in order to apply the v1.05 firmware update you need the most current Windows Software driver. The driver is version 3.6.8.1170 and is available for download from their website

After loading this driver you will be able to launch the firmware update by starting the MOTU 828MKIII with the 'Page' button pressed in ... then launch the program titled 'MOTU Fx Updater 32'

The Updater program will detect that the 828MKIII is in Bootloader mode and begin the download of the firmware. Once complete you can PowerCycle the 828MKIII

Isn't the 3.6.8.1170 only for the V3HD? Couldn't find this driver for the mkIII.

If i press the page knob the display says 828 bootloader, but the update software still doesn't find the mk3.

New reason for the high pitch squeal

Post by toetag39 »

i recently updated the drivers (3.6.8.1170) and the firmware update (v1.05) and after numerous other reasons the mk3 triggers a high pitch squeal, when I load a cd or dvd into my rom, while listening to music or working with audio, the lovely high pitch squeal rips apart my ear drums as the cd loads. Increasing the latency doesn't fix the problem this time.

Any ideas?

CD/DVD hang

Post by lundbergj »

When I enter a DVD my system gets inresponsive for a few seconds (I have SATA plextor drive). I think it's a common problem, but some systems are far worse than others.

If I'm listening to audio on (my built in soundcard) audioquality even starts to degrade and sometimes break up during this period.

The mk3 seem very sensitive to any distrubances. For instance, I get the "squeak" if my wireless network drops signal for a few seconds.

I didn't even manage to install the update. How did you do it? I pushed "page down", turned on the unit and then tried to install the patch. It just says there are no upgradeable devices connected. Great stuff.

The MK3 is the patchiest thing I'ever laid my hands on. It's a real shame since the mk2 was so good. I've already seen quite a few units out on the second hand market.... I am thinking about selling mine as well.

What chipset are you using? I have a TI. It worked fine with my mk2, but something is seriously wrong with the mk3.

hey Joakim

i installed the 3.6.8.1170 audio driver from the V3HD driver patch. Why they only offer it with the V3HD is beyond me, but that's what ChiantiM said was told to use. After that, i power cycled the mk3 with holding the page button down, reopened the firmware update and was able to press the update button. The firmware update is needed. It resolved issues i was having with adobe premiere and xp; i felt it solved the high pitch squeal until i loaded a disc.
I have a TI adapter as well, which they recommend for their units. After the patch, i feel this unit is almost there. It is sad how buggy it's been off the shelves, and i hope they continue to address their issues...so hopefully yet another firmware\driver update is planned soon...

Finally !!!

I also installed the 3.6.8.1170 audio driver from the V3HD driver
patch on my 828mk3.

And after trying at least five times, my computer recognised
the device and I was able to install the new firmware update.

It looks like the 828mk3 is working perfectly now!
The MainOutput is under control and now audio dropouts
or squeels...

So, which firmware do you end up with after getting rid of the squealing?

drivers: 3.6.8.1170 plus firmware update v1.05

The only thing that should still be improved
is latency in Vista... but that does not bother me too much.

Hello,

In my system the problem happens if the sample rate is higher than 44.1 khz. Do you have this digital noise and drop out while working in 44.1?

How?

Post by prafit »

How did you get the 3.6.8.1170 audio driver installed from the V3HD driver patch on my 828mk3. I followed instructions and got nothing

Holding down value while turning on did nothing for me, but holding down page did and it still didn't recognize it and nothing happened.

Anything suggestions :?:

I did it!!

Post by prafit »

Okay, I installed the 3.6.8.1170 audio driver from the V3HD driver patch.
Next I restarted my computer and clicked on the 828v105 updater.
This time it recognized the hardware (that I already had in uploader mode) and I clicked update.

It updated and I re-installed my original 828 audio drivers that came with the hardware. I just started playing my CD so we'll see if this fixes the squeals I'll keep you updated.

Hopefully it will
