Fear and Loathing in my mac's OS
How can I disable all the are you sure questions in OS 10.4.11? If I take the trouble to type command Q I am already sure I want to quit what ever. Same for shut down. I really do want to shut down please tell me there is a way to disable this stuff. This fear of typing didn't used to be there in OS 9 and I can't imagine the geeks of the world rising up and demanding more key strokes to close an app. End of Rant.

Not sure what you mean about "all the are you sure questions" with regard to the Quit command. If you open a document and change it, then of course the application wants to know if you wish to save the changes. If you don't make any changes, then Command-Q is instant.
The only exceptions to this that I've found are usually Windows ports, badly done.
As for Shut Down, just hit Ctrl-Alt-Command-Eject and the Mac shuts down immediately. Immediate Restart is Ctrl-Command-Eject. Immediate Log Out is Alt-Shift-Command-Q.
Or else you can hold down the Alt key while choosing Shut Down, Restart, or Log Out with the mouse.
Kind regards.

Thank you Dave. Where are the key commands listed? I must have been going thru them too fast if they are in sys prefs. mouse and keyboard. This info is very helpful. I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but I have to ask... these commands don't circumvent any mac shut down protocols do they? In other words, I know you can just hold down the start button and it will bypass the `are your sure,' someone said it wasn't a good idea to do all the time. They didn't know why. Is this true?

In the finder, go to the HELP menu. Choose Mac Help. Then in the search box type "keyboard shortcuts"guitron45 wrote:Where are the key commands listed?
Look for the article called:
"Mac OS X keyboard shortcuts"

Or just go here:

Now I feel dumb. I hadn't searched there. And thanks for the link. I've got it copied and saved.

Pressing the power button bypasses the "are you sure" routine all right. It also bypasses the system's shut-down routines, and this is not a good thing at all. Only to be used in the direst of emergencies.guitron45 wrote:... these commands don't circumvent any mac shut down protocols do they? The keyboard short-cuts only bypass the "are you sure" dialogs.
Kind regards.
