DP6 can use RTAS plugs?!
Has anyone been aware of this?
"
Digital Performer continues to be the leading alternative software front-end for Pro Tools HD systems. DP6 now supports the use of RTAS plug-ins on aux tracks and master faders. In addition, DP6 supports the use of RTAS plug-ins under DAE on post-TDM inserts.

only if you are running under DAE to use Dp as the front end for Pro Tools hardware and not using MAS for your audio system.

Would be great if they could figure out how to make RTAS available when using MAS, as well. I have a bunch of "Never Expiring" RTAS plugins which I got during my unfortunate stint with ProTools a few years back. Wouldn't mind having access to those plugins again. Wonder if it is possible to create an AU plugin that will act as a shell for you to load an RTAS plug?bralston wrote:only if you are running under DAE to use Dp as the front end for Pro Tools hardware and not using MAS for your audio system.

I doubt that will ever happen. Digidesign has been very uncooperative with wrapper companies like FXpansion who would love to make a RTAS-VST (or AU) wrapper.zed wrote:

Yeah, highly unlikely. Besides, RTAS still relies on DAE. It just creates a insert point into DAE, so you would need DAE. The only way that it would work is there was a demand for MAS into DAE - and there is no demand there. VST into DAE came around because there was a huge demand for it. MAS is just not big enough of a platform to warrant a wrapper.
I remember when I moved over to DP from ProTools, I was frustrated that all my Amplitube patches from the RTAS version could not simply be copied over, to be used with my AU version of Amplitube. IK Mulitmedia said they could not help me with this and that there was no converter application available.Mr_Clifford wrote:I doubt that will ever happen. I cannot imagine that it would have been difficult to create a simple converter application which would take the settings in one version of the program and create new patches for another version of the very SAME program. I have always suspected that the reason they didn't help me was due to Digidesign forcing IK Multimedia to NOT allow such a program to be distributed, as a way to keep people with ProTools. I may be wrong, but I wouldn't put it past Digidesign. I had to recreate (and still have to recreate) my old amplitube patches by doing screen captures in ProTools (on my G4) and then rebuiding the patches back in DP on my G5. Grrrrrrrr.

You can use the patches between the two programs if you use Amplitube's built-in patch browser (ie. not the save settings in DP & PT). I'm able to do that with Ampeg SVX & Amplitube 2.zed wrote: I remember when I moved over to DP from ProTools, I was frustrated that all my Amplitube patches from the RTAS version could not simply be copied over, to be used with my AU version of Amplitube.

I was actually referring to my old Amplitube 1 patches. Technology was less advanced, but I still got (and still do get) some delicious tones out of the first version.Mr_Clifford wrote:You can use the patches between the two programs if you use Amplitube's built-in patch browser (ie. not the save settings in DP & PT). I probably shouldn't be pointing fingers at Digidesign without knowing for sure. I used to have great respect for that company, but I guess they really rubbed me the wrong way a few years back and cost me a lot of money.

Me too! Great plugin. Still. Although Amplitube 2 is considerably more versatile (I'm particularly fond of the stomp boxes -- and the built-in tuner!) it's also a lot harder on the CPU. Sometimes all I need is a simple amp simulation, and Amplitube 1 can still deliver.zed wrote:Technology was less advanced, but I still got (and still do get) some delicious tones out of the first version.

You never know - native / software only is the future - Digi may open up TDM only software to PT's LE, also for DP under MOTU or 3rd party hardware (RTAS) etc. etc. Things change very quickly in the pro-audio-tech world. Look at pre-001 days... They have to keep their flexibility and really Avid (Digidesign) and MOTU have been solid partners since the beginning.
Just another view.
Cheers,
Phil J.
It might be possible to use plugins that you have been using MAS if there is a VST version, AND you use DP in DAE mode (Digidesign Mix or HD hardware). Presumable the VST to RTAS wrapper that PT users make good reports about at duc.digidesign.com would work with DP in DAE mode (though presumption about DP's implementation of DAE has been very dangerous).
re:Forusrite plugins- do you mean the D2 and D3? At the time they came out they were among the best but it really seems like replacing them with double precision URS, Sonnox, MDW usually results in a better sounding mix. But they are no doubt another color in the pallette (just kind of a last to go to here).

Never expiring RTAS plugins? Why would a legitimately authorized plugin expire? Why would a demo NEVER expire. Please explain.zed wrote:Would be great if they could figure out how to make RTAS available when using MAS, as well.
