What is the best PC setup to run Machfive 2?
I am about to upgrade my system but i really wanna stay in PC world. I am using Sonar 7, which is great for me. I managed to install Machfive 2.02 on my system with no problems. I am able to pull up sounds, it takes forever to load and then I only can play one sound at a time, it really sucks. Would it be better for me to just get a Mac and run Windows on it? Will I have the same problems when I running Windows on a Mac? I am sorry I have do many questions. I just am ready to make music again. Right now I am running Windows XP home on a Toshiba Satellite laptop that is several years old. A pentium m 1.6 ghz processor with 1.5 gigs of ram. Thanks for any suggestions and help.
re your current setup: I bought a Centrino 2.0 five years ago when they first came out and it's been working well ever since. Recent software requirements mean that I'm still on Live 5 and Sonar 3, but I'm only now coming to the point where I need to upgrade the hardware. Load time with M5 can be loooong, especially opening projects that use M5, but 2.02 is significantly faster. Make sure that you use disk streaming, and that all your PC power settings are turned off. I think I've also read somewhere that XP Pro is a better platform that Home, but I may be mistaken.
as for upgrading the hardware, there is no real reason to go the Mac route. Coreaudio is the only plus that I can see (that, and M5 is written for Macs first and the PC version not as robust, but, as I only use M5 occasionally, that by itself is not enough to switch platforms for me. In fact if relevant I tend to use Yellow Tools Independence Free in my projects these days).
Basically just read the reviews, and comparison test and buy the best system you can afford. You'll want to priortize some things (i.e. for me fastest proc setup, fastest HD, best battery life boosted by auxilary battery, maxed RAM).
Good luck and let us know what you end up with.

i just upgraded my system with a intel quadcore 6700 cpu 4gb of ram nfx 680i motherboard. So far so good, I havent tried to load my ozone 3 machfive and other vst's at the same time, but i have run a few at the same time like the ozone 3 the rapture le and recording a bass lick and I was giddy with the amount of cpu not used when doing those tasks at the same time. this is turning out to be a great investment thus far. only thing though there is are no asio drivers for my motu traveler in vista, but the wdm works very well at a very low latency. I will post more updates as I get more into the swing of things learning my new system.

my system is running very well, quad core is the way to go with this mach five, preferable 64 bit and a lot of ram. I read in my book that MachFive operates optimally with 8gbs. I have to wait a while before I go there, but it is working good for what I need it for right now. Will update more as times goes on. and oh yea, by the way, motu tech support sucks!!!!. they told me that I needed to update my vista to sp2, there is no sp2, only sp1 on vista. I was so mad when I learned this. MOTU support needs to hire more customer friendly people that actually act like they care about the people who spend hundreds of dollars on their products. Sorry for my rant.

Could the support person mean
1. sp2 for XP
2. could he really mean you need to upgrade to Vista sp2... when it's available.
Just a thought.

that would be cool if i did not repeat several times, windows vista, not windows xp, there is a difference. and secondly vista sp1 just came out within the last week or so, so sp2 is some months down the road, and i still stand by my statement that motu support sucks!!! or should i say sucks for pc usersbjornln wrote:Just an idea... or two...dwest63812 wrote:my system is running very well, quad core is the way to go with this mach five, preferable 64 bit and a lot of ram.
