Ultralite and Mac (dodgy) Firewire question

Post by dazzer »

Hi.

Quick background - I bought a new MBP, which thankfully had a TI firewire chipset. The Ultralite worked great but the internal soundcard headphone out was a total disgrace. After arguing with the Apple Reseller about how this was pretty crap in such an expensive computer I got a refund.

Now I'm thinking of buying an Imac. Which leads me to 2 questions:

1 - Do the iMacs still have the Agere chipset which has caused problems with RME and other interfaces?

2 - If they do still have Agere chipsets, does anybody know if the Ultralite works with them?

I've searched but can't find an answer.

Cheers

I'm new to the Ultralite scene...I have an iMac...my UL audio works great...MIDI sucks...I've been struggling for weeks to get MIDI into an iMac.

I don't have a clue as to chipsets, etc.

FWIW....my experience has not been stellar.

Sorry to hear it's not gone well. Food for thought for me.

Anyone else had any experience with Ultralite and Agere, in either new iMacs or Macbooks?

I have no idea what chipset I have, but I've got a Late 2007 Macbook Pro. I haven't used my Ulralite a ton with it, but I did about an hour of location recording with it and no problems.

Just FYI for anyone in a similar position..

In the end I got a 2.4 MacBook. So far it works well with my Ultralite, both with audio and MIDI.
