The Second Coming? Not likely. That was Q1 1157 A.D.

I've never seen such an extensive sample demo of sounds for one product. The were about 12 pages of sound examples and explanations in there. I want DP6.

Unless I know nothing about marketing...I doubt they will replace the Electric Keys banner they just put on their site by a DP 6 banner next Monday. More like in a month or two.

Exactly what I was just thinking. I don't know if it will be a month or two, but it seems unlikely they would replace that flash animation with another so soon. Those things ain't cheap.

EDIT:

Actually, it looks like the they are cycling through products in the banner section of the site. I don't see why they wont add another. :)

Yeah, they are cycling them. I got the DP6 banner*, then I hit refresh by accident and it went back to the Electric Keys and 828 ones again ... it's just a matter of pot luck think.

* not really :wink:

I was so surprised a few weeks ago when preliminary information began trickling out, as I didn't realise from the Winter NAMM announcement that this VI is meant to include all sorts of stuff like Mellotron, string synths, etc., and not just Rhodes, Wurlitzer and Clavinet.

Considering how many products now fill this space, that's probably the only way a new product would get attention :-). But I'm wondering if the product name will cause many to pass on by without taking a closer look, if they already have satisfactory Rhodes and Wurlitzer sources?

Wow, that's a lot of demos -- most are impressive, when auditioned in isolation of any direct comparisons to competing products. In this sort of listening context, only the Hammond B3 sticks out as not being expressive.

Considering how many rare instruments are included in this 40 GB collection, it may well end up being a must-add even for those with satisfactory e-piano and organ libs.

I wonder how they got ahold of all of those keyboards? The Yamaha GS1 and GS2 in particular are quite rare!

As an owner of a few competing products (Native Instruments B4II & Elektrik Piano, Propellerheads' Abbey Road collection, Applied Acoustics' Lounge Lizard) I didn't expect to find this product appealing. But I'm impressed with both its comprehensiveness and the sheer fun-ness of its screen GUI.

I thought that many of its sounds were incredibly good. I'm not sure they beat the native sounds of my Kurzweil 2600, but they do have their appeal. I find it a little odd that now VI's are moving into the domain of actual rack gear that still exists. Maybe there's something to be said for sampling actual gear in its performing environment, as opposed to recreating the sounds of that gear algorithmically, and then adding an appropriate IR in Altiverb. I have to say that those B-3 instruments were amazingly accurate, and the Rhodes were fantastic. I could actually remember players I knew using each of those models of Rhodes keyboards, and I've toted a few of those around.

I was hoping the demo mp3's would include the flute mellotron used by the Beatles in Strawberry Fields. What fascinating instruments those things were. Mechanical tape players under each key, with the tape suspended by gravity and spring-loading. Lots of room for screwups, and indeed the players who attempted to use them on tour complained of their constant need for adjustment.

I think that for most electromechanic key sounds it makes sense to use samples as: a.) they're one-hits with distinctive percussive timbres, b.) they're often ooped sources anyway, c.) they were run through amps to get the sound we're familiar with.
