828mk3 playback is loud even at -80db?

Post by bossent20 »

MOTU did the wrong thing of selling products with bad installation drivers on their install discs

Don't they test things before they ship them to stores- DUH!

Anyway I got a new problem after getting the new drivers to work...

The audio playback is too loud. What I mean is, I can easily hear audio in windows media player and other programs even at -80db which is the lowest level of volume there is on the MOTU

At night, this is quite loud and disturbing

Surely it is no way for a professional home studio setup.

Why am I getting such loud settings? Could it be a faulty unit?

And why does the CueMix FX window have a 'monitor' button at the bottom of the channels inside the OUTPUT tab? When I select the MONITOR button, the blue LED light comes on. This obviously allowed the MOTU volume knob to take control of the volume level of that particular channel.

But why on earth does selecting this button make my speaker volume output to full level, without being able to adjust the volume via control knob on the MOTU?

This is very stupid ad quite scary since I did not know what to expect when that happened?

Now, everytime I select something in the CueMix FX, I flinch coz I am worried something loud might happen again

Again I can assure you this is no way to work and if MOTU designed it to be this way then they do now know what they were doing.

Is anyone else having similar issues?

PLEASE HELP ME OUT HERE SOMEONE!

Thank you

Hi.
I presume you're using powered monitors ??
I have an 828mk11 and mackie HR824 powered monitors.
I leave the 828 "up full" the whole time, and between the 828 and the mackies I have a small, high quality analogue mixer.
This allows me to have complete analogue control of the volume .. and also to route my CD players, etc. into the monitors too.
Works really well, and I guess is similar to how most people do it ??
Decent small mixers can be picked up very cheep these days .. well worth splashing out for, if you ask me !!
(Good for the nerves too !!)

Hello

This is happening too in OSX. The level in the main outputs is extremely loud and you can't control it.

No solution for you, but I hope it makes yo say "I was not the only one" (knowing that other people is suffering the same thing with their mk3s...)

Soon to be fixed in Firmware

Spoke with MOTU TechSupport today --- there is a pending Firmware upgrade to solve the attenuation issue with the Master Volume pot. No date given .... but it's a known issue
