2408MkIII plus a 24I/O on its own or with....

Post by Adam Howden »

Hi,

I recently purchased a Motu 24 I/O to add to my 2408MkIII and PCI 424. The idea was that whilst I'm sending the 2408MkIII or to BlackLion Audio for a mod that I could use the 24 I/O in conjunction with my PCI-424. Is this possible, I've checked the Motu website specs and it states:

"The 24I/O can be purchased as an expander for an existing PCI-424-based MOTU Audio System, or as a core system which includes the PCI-424 card and Audiodesk workstation software".

But the Sweetwater guy has said that its an Expander only for the 2408/PCI system and must be used with the 2408. Am not sure who's correct now.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with this...?

Cheers, Adam H.

I do not have a 24I/O, just a 2408mk11. I understand it that you can use the 24I/O with or without the 2408. It hooks up with a separate cable and your software will show only what is hooked up to your 424 card. A core system comes with the 424 card, the expander is without a card but is the same interface you get with a core system. You only need an expander since you already have a 424 card. It should hook up and play real nice all by itself, so you should be able to send your 2408 off to be moded and be fine. You say you already bought it, have you hooked it up yet and tried it? Let us know how it goes. Hope this helps... some anyway.

i have 3-2408 mk3's and 1-24/io all working off 1 pci 424 card.

any one of all these units can be a master, you just need a 424 card.
