The problem I had seems to have been a firewire issue as it went away when I installed SDK23. That was several system updates ago. I don't know if any of those firewire patches are still lurking around my system, but the problem has never returned.

I still get it every now and then... but I'm so used to it now I've made it part of my signature "sound"... hoping it will catch on in the mainstream..

With so many DP users who have had this problem, it might become the DP signature sound.

Same here! Even after hitting stop!

Post by guyfscott »

Same for me Armann. I'll hit stop sometimes when it is making the static noise and the static of the audio continues to play for a few seconds. Like a static ghost of what was on the track.

I actually have a different take on what it sounds like, though. Sounds to me almost like when you don't have your digital clock locked in. For that reason I tried using an external clock source (a TC Electronics Finalizer) but that didn't help. All of this started when I switched over from my old G4 to my 8-core MacPro. Hope someone figures this out!!!

I use to have the same "glitch and pops" problem in small and big projects. They are ok in real time, but as u merge them the crackle occures´and gets recorded!

Some editing points and tracks I just cant "merge" or "bounce" without getting the crackles of the editing points included. I usualy have to "check and listen" to the merged files and do it all over. Sometimes I merge tracks in several parts and that might help.

I do a lot of editing due I work mostly with audio.
I use all outputs of the MOTU 24 I/O and 2 x 2408 MK3, a maximum of 40 I/O, on my mixing desk.

I usualy edit tracks in solo mode or on just on a 2 track stereo bus output to ease the system.
Sometimes I hear a lill part of the song, a kind of " song blip" just at the point pressing spacebar and before playback a file. This is not recorded in the soundbites.
I guess it´s stuck in DP´s buffer memory or so.. I donnow.
I usually use buffersize 2048 due my multiple outputs.

hello fellow cracklers! this is a real bummer.

i just upgraded to one of the new iMacs, updated to 5.13, and now i am also a citizen of crackleville. this never ever happened with 5.12 on my G4 iBook.

just a couple other things to add ... i still get the crackle when pointing DP to the built-in output of the Mac, so i do not believe this is a FW (i am using a Traveler) issue.

also, and more weirdly, it sounds to me like the crackle is occurring either as the files are read or somewhere "inside" the DP audio system prior to the outputs. i say this because i get reverbed crackle coming through my reverb return in my mixes and bounces! likewise, if i pan a few tracks left or right, the crackle seems to move along with those tracks in the stereo field. again, if this was a hardware or driver issue, i believe it would not behave in this way.

lucky for me i've got a few alternate apps around that i can use (err, for example PTLE on Vista :(, because DP is unusable in this state. i could live with it if it was only on playback but with it infecting my bounces, no way ...

I had an attack of it today on my old machine (still running Tiger on it). This alone is a good reason to upgrade to Leopard. I haven't had any of these problems yet under Leopard and 5.13. 8)

I run DP on my PPC with Tiger 10.4.11. I was always wondering what people were talking about with this "crackle" stuff and then I heard it when I was tracking some bass lines. It just came and went whenever it wanted to. First time I'd ever noticed it.

Call me a purist, but I didn't like it. No Green Eggs and Ham for me, thx.
Success is just one more plugin away! And happiness is as close as your next upgrade.

Add another one to the pile who is really annoyed with this issue and is experiencing it as well. Magic Dave??? Where are you on this? Please make sure this gets fixed asap whether it's a DP issue or other. This is not cool for people such as myself that make a living with your product and rely on its professional (or not so) results every day!

Thanks,
Rainmaker
