Superdrive Making Unwanted White Noise

The Superdrive on my Dual 2.3 G5 has started making odd interference noises over any music that is being played from a disk. The noise is then imported into iTunes over the track. At first i thought it was an iTunes problem but it does it when audio is imported into DP from a disk. I've cleaned the drive using a lens cleaner, still does it. I also thought it was doing it on just CDR's but it now does it on commercial CD's too. Is it time for a new drive ?

Have also tried playing a movie DVD and it was fine, making a data dvd of files went ok too.
