I know this thread is for problems, but I must reply to say that for me and several colleagues here in LA, Tiger is THE MOST STABLE OS yet. I can't remember a 5 hour session with NO CRASHES at all. So far with Tiger I've had 2 days in a row with some pretty taxing stuff. Without question, today I will be updating my "safety" Panther partitions to Tiger. Amazing improvement.
Only downside is UAD 1 which I was informed will be perfect within the next 2-4 weeks....max!

Can you please tell about how you transferred files after installing Tiger so as to have your plugs in the right folders...etc? Also, what kind of install did you do?

I believe I simply dragged my apps from one partion to the next. Same with my plugins in the audio-Library Æ’. I obviously had to re-authorize a lot, but it was sort of a no brainer. I know there are much more sophisticated methods for this, but if you suffer from lack of patience like I do.....this worked!

There are two other more convenient ways of transferring files from your older OS to Tiger. If you are going from one computer to another use the FW target setup. You restart your 2nd Mac holding down the "T" key. This puts it into target mode where Tiger will automatically dupliocate your setup, all files, depending on what you select as an option.

The next, possibly best option, especially if you aren't transferring from one to another computer, is to use Carbon Copy Cloner. This makes a clone of your system, down to the authorizations. Very handy.
All the best,

I gave up with Tiger. I couldn't get MIDI to work, Audio with 828 seemed OK. I went back to Panther and now MIDI works but can't get 828 to be seen my DP.

Tiger also doesn't work with a lot of programs yet, including Pro Tools !!

I have been a Mac user for decades and there's one thing I learned when OSX came out - don't change your OS unless you HAVE TO.
In have Jaguar on one drive and OS9 on another - OS of choice - 9!
I have to ask the question - why are you all buying Tiger? Is it for dashboard? Is it for iLife? The fact is - Mac wants you to use THEIR software - be it Final Cut, Garage (or Garbage) Band. Installing a new OSX ALWAYS creates new problems - especially with third party audio software. Mac is changing things too fast in their OS for companies to keep up. Anyone here try to record audio in Linux? Unix - Linux both can be a bigger pain than their worth.
If you are a musician, recording engineer, stick with what works - unless of course your charging your troubleshooting time to your client. LOL!

BTW - there are a lot of OS9 applications still being written and are even becoming more available as freeware. I know this doesn't help DP4 users - but it's food for thought.

Have fun troubleshooting!

Makin money with DP3 and OS9.

I agree with Bruce. I did Archive and Install and I have to say it is THE MOST STABLE OS TO DATE. AND ZERO CRASHES WITH DP. None. Nada. Zip. I can't believe it actually. Running Waves, Altiverb, GPO, Stylus RMX.

Installed Tiger on a seperate hard drive, installed latest drivers for my MIO 2882, MOTU's latest MIDI driver, DP 4.52, all my plugs and VI's and have not had one problem with stability or performance in audio or MIDI. It just works and the graphics engine of Tiger is definately better and they haven't even enable Quartz 2D extreme yet. When they do, I have a feeling that screen redraw issues will be greatly diminished under heavy CPU loads. Also, aggregate device support is very cool. Add multiple audio interfaces and Tiger lets you use them all at the same time. Tiger is definately not perfect, but it is stable, fast and will only get better. Apple has also stated publicly that the frequency of OSX updates will slow down with the introduction of Tiger. I don't think 10.5 will surface for a couple of years. I miss the snappiness of OS9, but with Tiger the graphics issue is being addressed and crashing is virtually non-existent.

I did an "Archive and Install".
(No reformatting or anything )

Manually copied fonts, Motu folders, plugins and various framworks from:

/previous System/Library and
/previous System/Library/Audio

to corresponding places in:
/Macintosh HD/Library/Audio
/Macintosh HD/Library

No problems at all. I run very small projects in DP,but have lots of apps installed.
