Reason 3.0, DP 4.52 and G4 800mhz
Just switched from Reason 2.5 to 3.0 - and this caused DP 4.52 to have glitches in playback, particularly with audio. It seems that 3.0 is mega memory hungry and won't work properly on a G4 of 800mhz. I dumped 3.0, went bqack to 2.5 and now it works perfectly - what a waste of money! So be warned.

Re: Reason 3.0, DP 4.52 and G4 800mhz
hmmm I don't know.... I just installed Reason 3.0 on my QS (Dual GHz) and it's just as smooth as 2.5.... Give it another try. Maybe try to delete everything from 2.5 before, install a fresh new 3.0 and see what happens. In terms of memory usage, I haven't seen any notable difference between 2.5 and 3.0 (I usually check this via 'top' in terminal). The system requirements are 'anything capable of running 10.2.6' with 256 MB of RAM, so your G4 should be just fine. Do you have the same problems with Reason 3 in stand-alone mode ?Originally posted by garys:

Reason 3 is so slow.
What I liked about Reason is that it was CPU efficient.
Now it's proving wrong.

Geez, I think running Reason with 512 buffer in an older G4 is pushing it.
I have a dual 867 (MDD) with 2Gbs. of RAM and things are smooth.
Running 2.5 though haven't tried 3 yet.

Re: Reason 3.0, DP 4.52 and G4 800mhz
Wow - just last week I ordered both DP and Reason upgrades (to 4.52 and 3.0 respectively), and I had been planning to install both in my 1.5Ghz 15-inch G4 Powerbook (w/ 1.25GB RAM). With this setup, do you think I will face the same type of speed problems that you are facing, or should my faster processor keep me afloat?

Yes , but go for it.
Whats more fun than figuring out new software issuses?
It better that writing Music.
dp4.5 will slow everything down on its own.

Re: Reason 3.0, DP 4.52 and G4 800mhz
Thanks for the comments guys - I may try again but I was getting "spikes" if that is the right term - the audio would sort of jump. When I switched back to Reason 2.5, DP worked fine again.
I think one of the warning signs was when I tried to run the Reason 3.0 demos in stand alone mode. They chugged for two seconds and then stopped with a message appearing saying my machine was too slow to play them. They were big rigs so I assumed it was that.
Also the program itself has shot up in size from 6MB to 38MB so maybe it shows it as being a bigger program.
I will maybe try again but I'm not hopeful - I will try the buffer and all that - to be honest last night I was more concerned with making sure things still worked okay with Reason 2.5 and DP. As the last comment wryly suggests - just as you get a usable system, you get an upgrade and you are back to low productivity. What a bummer!

Re: Reason 3.0, DP 4.52 and G4 800mhz
I just ordered my upgrade to 3.0. I'm on a dual 800 Quicksilver, 1 gig RAM. I'll report as soon as I get it going. I know the new combinator is a processor killer. It's very deceptive, looking like a single device, but containing multiple modules and effects. Wish me luck.

Re: Reason 3.0, DP 4.52 and G4 800mhz
I still had massive problems with the same spec using only a few devices and no combinator. I have logged a complaint on the propellerhead website - saying that if its not a bug, they should change the minimum spec they quote to something else - and give me my money back. We'll see how quickly they respond - but I'm not the only one complaining.
