Rewire Problem
Hello All,
Once upon a time, I had Ableton Live happily running as a rewire slave under DP 4.52.
At the time, I was trying to work out a few odd quirks in my system and mistakingly had thought Live may have been the culprit...so i downloaded the latest Live 4.14 demo to see if it cleared up any of the problems, but it turns out that live was not causing any problems after all.
So after figuring this out, I deleted the Live 4.14 demo and went back to the version I was using prior.
Now the original works fine in stand alone mode, but now when I try to run it as a rewire slave I get a dialog box that says something to the effect of:
"The rewire host was expecting a different version of Live and will not sync up. Please restart both the master and slave applicaions to get this to work" ...or something like that. Anyway, it just repeats this cycle over and over and restarting both apps does nothing to change this.
So long story short, does anybody know how or where I can point DP to look for the version of Live that I want it too....I've been all through my user account Library with no luck so far.
By the way, the Live demo doesn't have an uninstaller (or installer), you just drag the app to your hard drive to install it.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Rewire Problem
I 've found that Live will add new versions of Rewire which remain after you delete the app.
This could be your problem. I know when I launched the Live 4 demo, a new version of Rewire was installed. And I had DP and other apps complain about it.

Re: Rewire Problem
Any ideas on how to "roll back" or get rid of it?
Re: Rewire Problem
This is the case with Reason demos as well. With the Reason demo, I believe all of its elements were contained in one folder which could be easily deleted (thus deleting all redundant ReWire links). You don't have to conduct any fancy-schmancy uninstall. Could the same be true for the Live demo?Originally posted by Labonza:

Re: Rewire Problem
Try removing the Rewire extension from [system drive]/Library/Application Support or [user]/Library/Application Support, tracking down the old version of Rewire from your original Live install CD, and sticking it in that folder. It could be that your original Live is not compatible with the latest Rewire extension.
Re: Rewire Problem
What onion said.
Also, once you've removed the offending version and hopefully got an older Rewire that DP and other apps like, make a few copies of it and stick them in folders somewhere.
If this ever happens again from another demo or whatever, you'll be able to set things straight in a few minutes.

Re: Rewire Problem
first, thanks to all that responded.
I tried all of your suggestions, but no luck yet. I thought I'd share my "what didn't work" experiments incase it would help anybody in the future....here what I did:
1. Deleted the rewire entry of [system drive]/Library/Application Support
2. Noticed that when I launch the old working version of Live, it creates the rewire file that was deleted in step 1. (and no that didn't work either)
3. Did a search in Finder and deleted all things rewire.
4. Live doesn't have a dedicated rewire file on the original disc, so I reinstalled reason 2.5 to get rewire back....keep in mind that Reason and Live lived in harmony until i installed the new live demo.
So stil No Dice....
Any clues to where a reference to the new rewire may be hiding or something?
where can i simply get just an "old rewire" file to experiment wth?

Re: Rewire Problem
Look for something called Ableton Live Engine hiding in there ( I think, this was a while ago).remove this and THEN try reinstalling Reason 2.5Originally posted by Delusion:

Re: Rewire Problem
you could also delete any prefs in your users prefs folders that relate to rewire or Live.
