SYNTH Plug in's recommendations; IE a Roland XV 5080
OK I need some more awesome input from all you guys.
I have plenty of sample based VI's for strings, orchestral, etc. but I am dearly missing having my Roland XV 5080 for synth based sounds like bell pads, warm pads, or anything that's not a "real" instrument.
I've perused presets in plug ins such as NI's Reaktor, Pro-53, Massive, etc. but none of those even come close to stacking up to the 5080's patches.
I could buy several external boxes like the 5080, but I am trying very hard to stay away from tons of rack mounted gear with patch cables and such because I worked on a traditional outboard gear setup for so long (16+ years) I am now digging everything staying in DP and my Mac and not dealing with synth setups and patch cords.
Recommendations on great synth plugs that stack up? I wish Roland made the 5080 in a plug...
Thanks in advance for the help!

Try USB Plugsound Pro - it's the closest thing I've found to a 5080-type library. I suggest getting the Synth Anthology expansion with it.

Try the Korg Legacy Series both the digital and the analog. It's got great sounds. It includes several classic Korg synths: the Polysix, the MS-20, the MonoPoly, the M1, T3 and the Wavestation. Plus, it also comes with a handy multi-effects plug-in that you can use on audio tracks.

Another vote for Plugsound Pro.
On sale at sweetwater:

(you will need an iLok key if you don't have already)
Info and mp3 demos here:

Synths anthology would indeed round out the sound collection.

Don't discount the hardware box so easily. I still run my old JV-1080 in my setup, and whilst I don't use the sounds much for final production, it's great to have a box that has instant access to the sounds (no loading samples), doesn't drain the CPU, and has no latency (well not from the host DAW anyway), for when I quickly want to knock some ideas up. I have it permanently patched into my Fireface so when I want to bounce it in as audio i just need to arm my pre-prepared 1080 audio track and hit record. I wouldn't trade it for a VI version for anything.cbergm7210 wrote: Recommendations on great synth plugs that stack up? I wish Roland made the 5080 in a plug...

Hey guys thanks for the heads up on the plugsound pro price at Sweetwater. Seems like a pretty sweet deal. I could use a good all around V.I. and compared to Colossus (although it comes with a 15 gig library) it's much cheaper. I ordered the synth anthology for it also. I'll chime in after a few weeks and give a little review on it.
