Interference when importing audio....

Post by cxi2001 »

Hi All,
I'm having problems with importing from CD-R's into DP and iTunes. A strange distortion that actually sounds like radio static fades in and out over the music track. This noise does not appear when played on a hifi CD player but does appear when played on the Mac and when imported. I've never noticed it before, but it has done it over the last couple of CD's i've imported. It would appear that the Mac internal CD drive is causing the problem - anyone else had this ? The CD's are archived material of my own tracks that i'd like to get on the net, distortion free, it's a bit annoying !
Directly importing an audio file into iTunes is fine, and commercial CD's would appear to be ok as well. I've just tried one of the CD's in question on my work iMac and that appears to play it and import just fine.
Is my G5 internal superdrive failing ?
Any suggestions, as ever, gratefully received.
Nick.

Just to re-iterate, the track is audible when imported, the static drifts in and out randomly throughout the track.

Yep, just done that. Still does it.
Playing a purchased CD (Radiohead - In Rainbows) in it now, seems to be ok. Going to try dragging the AIFFs from the CDR onto the desktop, then into iTunes.

Tried dragging the AIFFs straight from the CD to the desktop then into iTunes.
Still did it.
It's not something weird like the drive not liking 80min CD's?
