CS 4.1.2 and MOTU 828mkII setting on 96k

Hi folks,

until now I have recorded always 48kHz/24bit. Now I would like to try it with 96kHz/24bit. Question is, is there any proper order in which I should set things up, or it doesn't matter? I di it like this.

1. turn on MOTU 828mkII (its on 48kHz)
2. start Cubase Studio 4.1.2 (its back on 44.1kHz)
3. open Device Manager and then in VST Audio open Control Panel
4. I change it there to 96kHz
5. Cubase stops working from that point on

Where is the problem? Am I doing it right?
