nubee question - bad idea to adopt the 828mk3 early?

Post by lafours »

I have never owned a motu product..and I am primarily a pc user. I am ready to order a 828 mk3 and just want to now how motu support/driver updates are..this thing has alot under the hood and I don't want to be in early adopter purgatory.....

any helpful thoughts?

Thanks

Not sure it's very helpful ... but, my thoughts would be to wait a week or two after they are released.
If they are laden with problems, I'm sure we'll hear about it within that time.
Speculations won't help.

That's just me though. I'd rather someone else take a chance with their money first.
However, if you're that someone else .... by all means, let us know how it works out.

Edit to add.... I've had an mkII for around three years now with not a single problem.
I use older drivers though. No reason to fix em if they aren't broke.

I can't think of a single hardware product where MOTU hasn't got it right upon first release, and that's saying something.

All its MIDI and audio devices rely on drivers, and this seems to be where improvements are made over time as well as adaptations to OS updates and the like. :D

Mac 2012 12C Cheese Grater, OSX 10.13.6
MOTU DP8.07, MachFive 3.2.1, MIDI Express XT, 24I/O
Novation, Yamaha & Roland Synths, Guitar & Bass, Kemper Rack

How very observant of you, Jimbo. :D

Nevertheless, I stand by my comment.
I do know that many Windows folks have had major hassles with MOTU hardware... until they ran the right motherboard/bios/driver/firewire chipset etc.

I still can't think of a single instance where MOTU has recalled/re-released a hardware item due to an oversight such as this or a lack of vision. :?
