I'm new to using VIs. I've always used hardware samplers for orchestration and have never encountered the latency issues I'm having now. I'm trying to use East-West's Symphonic Orchestra silver in DP, but the more tracks I add, the farther they drift behind. Is it common practice to "freeze" a VI track as soon as you're done with it to reduce latency, or is there something else that I'm missing? Increasing the buffer size keeps the sound from breaking up, but makes latency worse. I know many composers are using VIs- there must be a way to make it practical. Must I buy a PC and GigaStudio for my sounds to play on time? How are people doing this? How can an 8-year old hardware sampler out-perform my new G5? Ahhhh!
Thanks
VI Latecy

Re: VI Latecy
Do search for this topic. This gist of it is that you may need
1. a faster single machine
2. a second or third machine to run VIs.
Larger buffers make it worse as VI live performance is real time=CPU intensive. When mixing larger buffers help.
And yes; freezing may help- but save time by freezing multiple VIs at one pass.
