Any new audio encoding technologies on the horizon?

Here's where to talk about preamps, cables, microphones, monitors, etc.

Any new audio encoding technologies on the horizon?

Post by cinealta »

I will be investing in new 192 Khz/24 bit A/D converters. Before I do, are there any new audio encoding algorithms/technologies on the horizon?

It seems every time I buy a converter, a new standard comes out a few months later! When I got 44.1 KHz/16 bit, the 96Khz/20 bit came out. When I got that, the 192 KHz/24 bit came out! I would hate to get these new converters and find out everyone is switching to Direct-Stream-Digital (2.8224 MHz/1 bit) or something.

I know technology will always evolve, but is there something I have missed reading about lately?
