I can't wear headphones anymore....need an alternative

Post by Pound »

Hello all. Well, this might sound a little strange, but I can't wear headphones anymore. To make a long story short...I had surgery on my left ear last year, because somehow the cartilage got damaged and it hurt all the time. I didn't hit it or anything, so not sure why this happened. Anyways, the doctor told me when I had surgery that I didn't need to push on my outer edge of my ear cartilage. So I've only had headphones on a few times since then. It hurts and I my ear is getting irritated again. So I'm trying to figure out another solution. Any suggestions?

Big over ear cans like the AKG 271s?

The 271s are much larger and roomier than 240s, for me they don't actually touch my ears at all, the pressure is only on my head. As a plus, they isolate and seal really well.

Try them out and see how they work for you.

I thought about in ear monitors, but I can't really stand to have anything like that going in my ear. I guess I'm just weird. lol

I'll try out the AKG 271's and see how that feels.

Yeah, I can't stand in-ears, either. Makes me nuts. It's just unnatural to have sound direct-injected into your ear canal.

Good luck with the 271s, I hope they work for ya! Let us know how it goes. :D

I think my friend has several pair of the 271s at his studio. Not completely sure, but I think so. I'm gonna see if he does and try them out. Also, I'm gonna go to another doctor and see if they can do anything to help me.

Personally, I have more faith in AKG than I do doctors. (If only I were kidding...)

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

I don't have much faith in doctors either. That's why I'm in this predicament partly. I truly believe they messed up my ear when they cut on it the first time. If another doctor has to do it again, then I'm going to have to have plastic surgery because I can't go out in public with a chunk of my ear missing. People say they don't notice the little bit that's missing now when I ask, but to me it's a big deal. But what can you do? Anyways, thanks for the input. I'll let you know how it all works out.

I'm sure you've considered this, but there's nothing quite like longer hair to keep your ears out of sight. My ears have been invisible to the general public for more years than I care to remember - I'm sure it would work for you too.
Hope you sort it out - it must be tough going for you.

Cheers,

Geoff

Your probably right. I'm sure most people don't really notice it, but I have had a few times when someone would say....."man what happened to your ear." And I also have a pretty big scar on my neck from another doctor that removed a mole that he said looked like it might be cancer. He said it wouldn't leave a scar, but it did. Not just a regular scar, but a keloid scar. the kind that are real red and raised up. Which I've had numerous people ask me about that.
