I really think DP is a wonderful program --- the best program in the world for my work --- but MOTU's marketing leaves a lot to be desired. Especially with regards to reaching out to people under 30. DP needs to shake off its reputation as the DAW for the middle-aged.

I say this as someone who is 35, so I'm no young-un. I just want it to have more youth market penetration so that the company survives into the future for a long time.

i doubt you need to worry. ive been using motu products since i was 22. i guess im part of a tiny percent. but hey i cant stand what is popular with the youths. protools for rap/hiphop/ pop. cubase or logic for electronic.
live for for unorthodox electronic(drum and bass, industrial, noise). i do so many styles and videos too. i couldnt imagine doing all this stuff on any other DAW.

Started using Performer when I worked at a music store in Sacramento at 18 years old. All the other companies would come in to hock their wares and I would just love to ask them what their stuff could and couldn't do.

I think you guys may be missing my point. I'm not talking about your/our generation. I'm talking about people who are 18 NOW.

In the long term, DP cannot survive if it does not continue to bring in young users.

I've said this before, but I think DP needs to mount a campaign like this one, showing cool/current people who use it in their everyday work.

I started on DP 4.12 3 years ago when I was 33!

That's not impressive I know....

Still learning - actually I've got a full 5.1 surround film mix in two weeks time, so I might be frantically posting here for some tips!

I crossed to DP from Pro Tools LE (after carefully considering Logic) to enable full 5.1 (and all other surround formats) mixing, ADC and unlimited track counts.

Seeing highlights of DP 6 make me think that I made the right choice - this release for me seems substantial - straight out the interleaved file support, BWF and AIFF support, enhanced FCP sharing features, + the plugs (when I occasionally put on my producers hat) make for a exciting upgrade.

MOTU - I'm still smiling!

I don't think that is really what it suggests to me. The minor cosmetic changes (which I really like) seem like a natural progression in making the product a bit slicker and more efficient for the enjoyment of all users, just as is the constant development in the look and function of the Mac operating sytem.

I'm with you, and I'm all for increasing the user base, but I should hope that making the program hipper is not so much to bring in the younger crowd than to simply improve the quality of the product for the benefit of new and seasoned users alike. I'm in my 40s and I like cool and hip stuff too. When I am in my 60s and 70s, I would still expect to have an appreciation for hip and cool, so long as it doesn't come at the cost of stripping out function. 8)

And one more thing (because I cannot resist saying so)... just because teenagers think something is cool and hip does NOT make it so. Sometimes what is really cool and hip goes completely over their heads.
