Hi,
Hope everyone had a good and eventful holiday period.
I have a quickie (as opposed to a quick key).
Does anyone know if there is a keyboard shortcut for transposing MIDI data selections up (or down) an octave?
Seems to be a basic thing which would be nice to be zipped up a bit. Commands ain't helpin'....
Cheers
G

I've discovered that a lot of musicians for basic transpositions think a little differently than DP does. I mean, it works fine, but the feature could be cleaned up a bit more.
When transposing up a half step, regardless of what notes are selected or the key signature, the transposition tool always defaults to C3 as the "from" note. I just tab over to the "to" window and hit C#3 on my MIDI keyboard and hit return.
I would love to see a basic transposition window that offered options of "up/down" then half-step, whole-step, minor third, major third, etc. This. imho, would be simpler than sifting through the long list of keys on the right side, which are currently dead on my system anyway. I've also created custom transpositions that always disappear for some unknown reason.
As for key commands, the manual suggests that virtually every feature can be assigned a key command, but this is *almost* true. Some of my most commonly used features are buried within sub menus but these sub-menu features are not always represented in the key commands window as being assignable.
I would think a third-party utility like QuicKeys would come in quite handy with this.
I would also suspect that many of these features might be accessed with contextual menus via right-clicking. Perhaps DP6 will offer tidier support of this feature. Where the Mac was once a single-click pony it is now a R/L click machine as standard. DP is still a left-click app for the most part.

as it is a relative relationship in that window
i just tab over to the second window and hit a key that is whatever interval
of transposition that i want. as i don't use key signatures this works for me.
for example:
if i need to go up a whole step and the default is C3 i jist tab over and put in D3 enter. that's my workaround

Yeah,
Thanks.
I do the same or just drag selections where I'd want them to be.
I was curious to see if something more speedy (and responsive), when making arbitrary selections of notes in an arp, could be applied as I'm experimenting in messing up the octaves to add some variety to said arp. It's no biggie, but would be a nice element in selecting notes in terms of the random nature of my experiment.
