MOTU ultralite and the darn dreaded dell inspiron 1505

Post by LINewYork »

I have been reading about the problems between dell laptops and motu ultralite all over the internet. What a Nightmare. It sounds like some people may have figured out a way to get this working but I havent been able to find any definate answer. I know the firewire chipset is at least part of the problem. The 1505 has only an express card slot. I purchased this card- http://www.startech.com/Product/ItemSpe ... 13942&c=US
Which has a TI chipset but I cant get it to work. Freezes up on powering up the motu. Tried disabling onboard firewire/onboard soundcard/antivirus but cant get it to work. Uninstalled, reinstalled etc.
Motu recommends ADS. They have an express card ( http://www.adstech.com/products/API-652 ... id=API-652 )

Also saw this Belkin: http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductP ... _Id=278329

Does anyone know if any of these will work? Does anyone have a dell 1505 with a motu ultralite that is working? How did you get it to work?

I only need to record one or 2 tracks at a time-nothing crazy.

The dell is running vista premium with 2 gigs of ram. I cant afford another laptop now and really want to get some things recorded. The next laptop I buy will DEFINATELY NOT be a dell but it is all I have to work with right now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

going through the same nightmare right now with my presonus firepod and an inspiron 1501... registered here actually just to see if MOTU could beat presonus to the punch for a solution...hope you guys don't mind  but my findings are that the SIIG brand card seem to work best for the firepods...even though i got one, and still have issues. disabling the wireless and onboard audio is yet to work. my issue is the thing will install and sync up, it just refuses to exchange any sound with the system (for more than a minute or two.) i think we got swindled on our laptop purchases, man.

The Belkin is a good product.

Used it on an older HP that had a VIA firewire and it worked fine (with only 512 ram).

Try the Asio4all drivers.

Same shizen, 1501 Inpiron with 896HD

Post by Zeb81 »

My 896HD worked great for a while on my desktop. Then i got a Dell 1501 Inspiron and unhooked it all... Bought a 'Best Connectivity' firewire expresscard - same shizen- freezing, popping, squeeling, never actually playing anything. BTW it WAS working for about an hour when I first hooked it all up, and then it began to faulter.

Then upon reconnecting the bastich to my old desktop, it wasn't acting right either. So I had to uninstal and reinstal, and then up the latency past 1000, to get it to play straight. Never did get it to work on the laptop, and I've been troublshooting for a solid 16 hours I'd say. BOO.

also BTW- it works spanking well on my destop Apple computer. too bad that beast is old and slow. I'd love to get a fi for this problem, as i'm thinking of selling either my laptop or my 896HD. I can't figure it and it's costing too much time and headache!!!
(BOTH MY OLD AND NEW COMPUTERS ARE RUNNING XP)

I also heard the Belkin might be an answer, but i can't get my hands on one to try... living in a small town. Need to order it, i suppose, however I've already forked out big bucks and this SHOULD be working!
