Macbook Air
...... Just stumbled on a live feed from SJ's keynote speech.....
It's very very thin apparently - aren't they thin enough already?
13.3" screen
1.6 GHz / 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
80 GB HD
I wonder how strong it is?
Blimey I've just seen a picture - that is thin!
My macbook has just gone off to the toilet to throw up
... no optical drive - LOL!
$1799!
Oh well it looks 'trendy but bendy' that's all I can say .... I wonder if that's it, announcement wise ....?

That seems like a lot of money for something that I can't see a whole lot of use for. If you just want to be seen with the newest Mac, then OK, but it doesn't seem to offer a whole lot for design, photo, or music work.

It's nice to know that in 5 years time laptops will be even cooler.

To me it looks a lot more like the very top end of the iPod line, not the middle of the laptop line.rcannonp wrote:That seems like a lot of money for something that I can't see a whole lot of use for. - reduced capacity storage
- 1.8" hard drive or flash, both of which are used in iPods
- multi-touch input
- limited I/O
- reduced footprint
- no user-replaceable battery
- something you own in addition to your main computer
It might not work well as your only computer in the way a MacBook (Pro) could, but it's one hell of an iPod.

It's really cool - if you're someone who travels for business a lot and needs a small & light laptop to use on the plane & hotel to get email & work in MS Office.
I think that's their target here - business professionals who travel. They tend to like very light & small laptops. I can't see it catching on in Apple's main target demo...the high end creative professionals.

Yeah, I think Air is the right name. Probably good for folks who fly a lot. Certainly nothing I'd consider for portable audio use.

I just wish it was a little less pricey. It seems like with a computer like that you could really carry it around without being too encumbered. Given, it's a little under powered for high end media stuff, but if it turned out you were bringing it around with you a lot more then you would with a bigger laptop.. I mean if you always had a computer with you wherever you went, that could be a very very cool thing.
Also, I remember sometime ago a monitor that you ware like glasses... so that it becomes like a mega big monitor when you put the glasses on. If you could use that with a MacBook Air.. you could get some amazing productivity with it.. without having to suffer from that itty bitty monitor.. A combo like that could be pretty amazing.

you know another thing I happened to think of, if Air doesn't have an optical drive, could we see a Mac Pro in the future without an optical drive? If so, perhaps a second hard drive? Perhaps internal raid? I understand there's hacks for such thing, but if Apple gave you the option, and it worked like Air, how elegant is that?

I think that the Mac is going to be a few models down the pro line before optical media becomes totally irrelevant. There's nothing elegant about uploading and downloading GBs of data.zarmattathustra wrote:you know another thing I happened to think of, if Air doesn't have an optical drive, could we see a Mac Pro in the future without an optical drive?
