Just bought Harmonizer 3500. Right move?

I paid $1300 bucks. It seems to be pretty nice. I remember the short rooms were quite good. Any comments welcomed.

Having heard your last album, I'd say it'd be perfect for you, Gary.

I don't know if that was typical of your work, but its old-school flavour suggests it is, and if this is the case, I stand by what I said.

The fact that you seemed to employ a decent smattering of chorus, phase and flange effects would make it ideal, IMHO.

PS: I've not played with one, so am just drawing on what I've read over the years.

Are you referring to the old HD3000/3500 from Eventide? If so, well I'm not familiar with the 3500 but I did own (5) of the HD3000's. The one thing to be careful, IF THIS IS THE SAME AS THE 3000, is they were quite noisy and very slow navigation speed/re-draw/loading. But that was the technology back then and it was better than anything else. The Eclipse today is something to the tune of 7-times faster and more powerful than the HD3000, then again I'm not sure about what the HD3500 was so take that with a grain of salt.

But in the end, it's still a dang cool box! We used them primarily for de-tuning of drums as well as de-tuning of electric guitars.

Thanks guys yea the older ones. I'm hoping it has a nice spdif converter so I can input my mixes from the API 8200 mixer I have and return it to DP for mix laybacks on projects.

Hey MM, I just finished getting my patchbays up and finally have my outboard rack patchable. Real happy with this as i didn't have them available for my last album.

The top patchbay takes the RME outs to the mixer and the bottom patch is the gear in the rack.

I plan to mount the Harmonizer under the RME's and make it the focal point of the system.

All I know is, it shouldn't matter how up-to-date the unit is; it should still have "that" sound, and that's what it's all about.
I still reckon something like this is perfect for what you do.

I've heard that all it's time-based effects are, well, timeless.

OUt of all the digi verbs out there I'm most happy to get my 480L back on line. It sound just outstanding. Better than Altiverb!

Brad, the unit I really wanted was an DSP 8000 but it's way to much doe for me these days. Most of the gear in the rack I had for years from my studio closing. Sort of a 20 year collection.

BTW I couldn't afford the wire guy you recommended because of price plus the Re'an bays were wired very strangely anyway. I know he would of charged me even more because he set hourly rates. Got it done for about a third less. Thanks for the reference though. I will try and use him again sometime when I have a paying project.

No problem on the wiring, he's not cheap---but one of the best. But if you got it done for a fraction of the cost, all the better.

It wasn't a fraction but $300 bucks can help me right now. I have one more bay to do that will require a CNC mill to cut out half a 48 point TT bay frame on one side for vintage 1108 preamp controls and oscillator. This will go into the top rack as part of the traveling circus. I'm the clown! hehe

There is some FW offerings from Eventide and Lexicon and if I could get a nice analog unit I would but no console here so the FW stuff is where I'm going...
