896HD not working with leopard 1.5.1 no audio

Post by Zjcc56 »

Hi all,

I switched to mac recently from pc and now im using my motu 896hd with my imac with mac osx with leopard w/ logic.
Woot for me
so far i have not ben able to get a single sound out of it except for the occasional pops when i switch sampling rates. I have tried many things up date os X update drivers over and over changed firewire cables unplugged it and switched the voltage back and forth to do a factory reset... nothing did a motu tech-link and all he suggested was to down load the newest drivers...... lots of help sense i already did that at least 5 times i tired the universal installer and the firewire installer and uninstalled everything again and now i just have the 1.2.6 drivers with no sound played with the audio MIDI setup in utilities im totally confused... can some one be saintly and help me out with this? Because right no i have a very expensive paper weight

ugh,

OK, very sorry to yell but here goes - want to make sure I get your attention:

VERSION 1.2.6 IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH LEOPARD.

Here is the link to the page you need:

Unleash a Leopard in your MOTU studio
http://www.motu.com/newsitems/motu-leop ... patibility

Here is the quote on that page:
MOTU FireWire/USB Audio interfaces

MOTU Universal Audio Install for OS X version 1.4.5 is required for Leopard compatibility; download it here.
===

So that is the one you need to get for Leopard compatibility. Hope it works for you!

Best of luck!

Well, 1.4.6 comes after 1.4.5 -- so of course 1.4.6 will be leopard compatible.

You are on the mac now. In almost all cases you do not need to "uninstall drivers." The new driver installer program will take care of that housework.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

As an aside: I find in general new switchers to the mac TRY TOO HARD.

The user experience of mac is not complicated like windows.

Whereas Windows might require three or four steps to do something, the mac usually requires one or two steps to do the same thing.

New switchers are always trying to make the mac have more steps, just like windows. So they TRY TO HARD to do things, rather than opening up to the fact that things are simpler to accomplish.

1.2.5 IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH LEOPARD!!!! Didn't we already establish that?

no need to be confused -- just go download and install 1.4.6

1.4.6 IS COMPATIBLE with Leopard

If that does not work, there is some other issue and you need to contact motu tech again.

Best of luck!!!!!

Ok, then it is something else.

If you live in the US, then the best thing to do is CALL tech support on the Telephone.

The best time to call is in the morning when they first open at 9 AM EASTERN TIME.

Not when you wake up, but when they wake up! THey are less busy there then and it is easier to get thru. Once the Californians wake up it gets hard to get thru.

Be sure to be in front of your computer and 896HD when you call:

Phone: 617 576 3066
(9AM - 6PM EST, Monday-Friday)

Best of luck!

how are your motu interfaces connected? specifically, what ports connect to what ports, and in what order.

describe like this:

896HD -> mac
896HD -> 828mkii -> mac
828mkii -> 896HD -> mac
896HD -> firewire hard drive -> mac

be specific and detailed about what is connected to all your firewire ports, and what is chained off of what. include non-audio related devices as well.

Not to sound harsh but

THERE ARE TONS OF PEOPLE MAKING MUSIC WITH 896HD and Macs.

It is an excellent audio interface, well respected in the community.

Now, if yours does not work it is either because:

1. you have done something wrong.

2. your mac has something wrong with it, either hardware or software

3. your 896HD has something wrong with it.

----

If it is 1 and/or 2, no other interface is going to work either

If it is 3, MOTU will fix it for you.
---

So it is time to settle down, stop making rash statements and work with MOTU to troubleshoot this.

In the meantime if you want to make music -- use the mac's built in audio while you get it worked out.

Best of luck -- I know eventually it is going to work out to be something simple.
