Tube Mic, or Tube Pre?

Here's where to talk about preamps, cables, microphones, monitors, etc.

Daniel, your mentioning of the "Gold Channel" reminds me of a question I've been burning to ask for some time:
How 'bout the Liquid Channel?

I'm especially curious as to what you guys think of it.
Will it, for instance, be a perfect companion to an evolving mic collection of... just one or two vocal mics?

Brad (or anyone),

what are your thoughts on the Blue Cactus? Is it similar to the Bottle (without the modularity)?

thanks

Hmmm... I love the Red Type B with my Millennia HV-3C. Old Timey... you're in San Diego. I'd be happy to loan you my Type B to try.

I have a pair of the Chameleon 7602 pres here. I love them. We did a shoot out with some older Neves and the difference between them (neves vs. chameleon) was no more than the difference between the various Neve modules.

I was impressed enough with the 7602 that I picked up the Chameleon TS-2 large diaphram tube mic. I'm equally
impressed with it. It's pretty much replaced my Soudeluxe U-99 as my go to Male vocal mic.

BIG FAN of Blue!! Hmmm would that make it BIG BLUE? Honestly, I'm not sure about the comparison of the Cactus and Bottle, but the Bottle has removeable capsules that basically change the sound and characteristic of the mic. While the Bottle is quite expensive, well the Cactus is too...but it's at a price point that if someone was willing to buy one great mic, it could be in reach. My personal favorite is the KIWI which is solid state, but for a tube mic...the Cactus is quite awesome.

To the question on the Liquid Channel, one of my favorite products. At one point, I owned three with the intention of having five.... but I wasn't using them that much and sold them off. It really does what they say it does, but whether the LC really completely emulates the said hardware isn't the key...it's the fact that one box can have a drastically different tone just by turning a knob, THAT is what makes this so good. I was planning on picking up the new Liquid4Pre, but for now---I think I have to just get the ISA828 as I need more channels and well, it's available now (new studio expected to be done next month).
Thank you,
Brad Lyons

Thank you for responding, Brad.
So the LC is the real deal, eh?

My budget's just taken a massive turn southwards, so now I wish I'd asked this question 2 or 3 years ago.
Bugger!
