Installing 8pre under Vista x64

Hi!
I just installed the "new" (january.2007) Vista driver for the FireWire interfaces. But my 8 pre doesn't work. There are just some sound pieces. It's like a extreme tremolo effekt. Sometimes there is even no sound. Vista accepted the driver, but it doesn't work.
Is there a newer beta driver or something else?

Okay,.... the interface doesn't work under vista. Now I tried the x64 Version of Win XP and it works properly. I recommend for everybody who needs the 64 bit technology because of big memory or anything else, the Win XP x64 Version. At the moment the only way I've found to work with audio programms on 64 bits.

I experienced exactly the same issue with my Traveler when I got it in April. I found that it would work OK under Vista 64 with its ASIO driver, but that it was/is hit and miss with Windows own audio engine BUT ONLY when I hobbled my system down to 3GB or less RAM. Using Windows audio as in playing back CD's in Media Player, the playback is far from smooth with various buffer size settings and at best audio will play for about 5 seconds and will briefly drop out. Right now I have been working with the Traveler, trying to make some sense of it, and failing. Whilst the ASIO driver is still working, the Traveler has unloaded itself from Windows' list of available audio devices and will require a reboot to bring it back on line. With 4GB in play, forget it completely. Vista 32 no problem and XP 32 but no problem. The sole reason I got this interface was to use it with Vista 64 and a reasonably large amount of RAM as M-Audio hadn't and still haven't got any full Vista drivers for their FW1814 which I also have, with the only one available being 32bit and that's still in beta. I did have quite a good positive dialogue going about the Traveler driver issue with MOTU tech support and I carried out a lot of fairly exhaustive tests with different motherboards, different IEE1394 interfaces, different memory configurations and even different graphics cards. What is certain though is that my Traveler won't play if I have all 4096MB of RAM available to my Asus P5B-E-Plus motherboard whilst running Vista Premium 64. I supplied MOTU with a full blow by blow account of all the tests and the results, but the trail went cold from their side and despite my attempting to re-contact the guy in tech support a couple of months ago, I didn't even get a reply, so I'm really none the wiser and haven't used my expensive audio interface very much as a result. It does seem though that there are some issues with Vista 64 and MOTU's January 2007 drivers. If I were giving advice to anyone considering Vista 64 with a MOTU firewire interface I probably would advise against it at the moment, which is disappointing because Steinberg and other manufacturers are gearing up to 64bit, and for what it's worth I have found Vista 64 iteself to be very reliable - it never crashes ever and runs Cubase, Wavelab etc... perfectly well for me albeit with a crappy little Edirol UA-20 interface, which ain't so crappy because it has 64bit drivers that work properly.

I have an 8Pre working in Vista 64 with 4GB RAM. I opened a ticket and they gave me access to their VISTA 64 beta driver and it works fine. The odd pop and crackle when booting up but it does that in Vista 32 too.

I got given a link by MOTU to the beta 64 bit Traveler driver for WindowsVista today. The install package doesn't work on my system, so back to the drawing board
