Tascam DM4800 and DP sync issues????

Post by Woody »

I just purchased a Tascam DM4800 with Firewire Card and I can't for the life of me get DP to sync with the card. I have even replaced the card and the same thing happens. The Firewire card works great with Soundtrack Pro, Itunes, Waves GTR and anything else I throw at it, so I'm convinced that it's something I need to do with DP. Anyone with a similar setup that this works for, help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

IMHO, you're better off getting the MOTU 2408mk3 and connect everything via (3) TDIF cables. Better connection, you don't have the driver issues and it gives you hardware i/o to monitor the audio stream.
Thank you,

Have you tried playing with Work Priority? MOTU hardware generally takes "High', but other manufacturer's stuff often works better at "Medium" or "Low."

I agree with Brad. I have a DM4800 and 2 2408's It works great with DP. I also bought an extra tdif card (don't buy the adat card I had 2 and couldn't get either of them to sync with DP). I have the 3 tdif I/O's that come with the board hooked into my first 2408 and the Adat and the new tdif card into my 2nd 2408. Everything works fine.

I have a DM4800 and have sync'ed it with DP. First thing is there is a separate PDF document that you can download from tascam that tells you how to do it.
I could not do it without calling tascam and they sent me
the file. After I set it up I could sync DP and DM4800 but it was not great. It would lose sync very easy and change hit points so I stopped using it. So if you need spot on sync I would investigate something else.
