I've got 2 Metric Halo 2882s and one ULN-2 and they work fine with DP 5.13 on my quad G5. I just select all 3 in the Hardware Setup dialog and they magically appear in the Bundles window!

the 2882 + dsp is very good and rock solid. DSP is very useful and sounds good. Orpheus isn't shabby either. Maybe even better sounding... But its just out and the 2882 is proven over the years...

Hmmmmmm, many votes for ULN2 & 2882..
I am changing my mind ..

ULN2 & 2882 are rock solid in DP5 ?!

Of course Orpheus is too high (price) and the converters seems extremely good ..

But i have one question :

Can you hear or know any differerence in ULN2 (converter) vs 2882 (converter) ?
and how to connect 3 2882 with one FW port , i am using iMac 2.8 24"(1 fw400 and 1 fw800) ??

For this price RME 800 could be a good choice ?!
You agree this?

thanks for any help!
love this forum!
love so much DP !!!

The Mobile I/O (MIO) 2882 & ULN2 use the same converter - the difference is the preamps. The ULN2 has 2 ultra-linear, transparent preamps. The 2882 is more API-ish in texture (though subtly) and a little noisier, but has 8 preamps.

You can daisy chain 3 2882 off a single FW bus...or 3 ULN2s...or any combination you want. They're quite easy to deal with and the routing is unbelievably flexible. If you've ever used a large format mixing console you'll feel right at home with the routing features of the MIOs.

and yes - rock solid in DP 5 (and DP 4). I actually switched from PT/TDM to DP simply because I wanted to use these interfaces.

Im using the Aurora 16 in Dp5 but with the AES 16 PCI card. It's rock solid and I have no problems with this setup

Good Luck

I made the switch when I needed to either [a] jump to PT/HD for my TDM rig or go with another, more open, system. I was using PT/TDM (not HD) with apogee AD/DA conversion.

Since I do a ton of location work (particularly audiophile classical) I ended up deciding on the metric-halo units because of their fidelity. There was no comparable PT/HD system if I wanted to be portable. And of all the FW interfaces, the metric-halo units were just head and shoulders above the rest.

Truth be told, when I record on location I don't even use DP. I use the metric-halo console app that comes with their hardware. It allows for direct recording of any inputs to disk with almost no overhead. Then back at the studio I pull the files into DP for editing & mixing.
