Smooth Jazz Mix Help

Post by rikp »

I would love some input on this, especially anything that I can do to make the mix better. All done in DP.

Thanks in advance.

I hate to be critical of other people's work, but you asked...

I think it's a real good first pass. Something about the bass sound I'm not liking though. It's not sitting in the mix quite right. It might need a little dirt. Give it a little grit to boost the harmonic content, so that you can lower the fundamental. I don't know if that will sound better or totally suck, but it's something I'd try. I'd get THAT right first before you go messing with anything else. Sometimes a change in bass sound can change your perception of everything else.

I also think you're at a point where everything beyond this is a matter of taste. There's a point before this where everyone would agree, 'The guitar's too loud." or "The EQ on the zither is way off," but it sounds like you've already crossed that bridge, so don't take me too seriously. I'm just throwing out ideas here. Overall, it sounds good.

Thanks for the input Phil. I agree about the bass. It has been hard finding the right sound. I am using trilogy. I may wind up using a "real" bass player!

I appreciate your time and thoughts!
