I just released a new CD (1st in 9 years) of solo piano pieces. I'm usually into bigger production writing and arranging, but this was the most practical (read: affordable) way to re-enter this part of my life. However, what started as practical became inspiring.
Everything except mastering was in DP. Some of the tunes started as improvisations I recorded with MIDI only on an Alesis QS-7 years ago, hoping I'd have a better instrument eventually. I now get to use a Yamaha S90ES, and decided to edit these MIDI recordings and add some new tunes to round it off.
However, the Yamaha still sounds like a really good digital piano trying to be a real piano. My mastering technician lent me his Windows machine with Gigasampler and a beautiful Bosendorfer virtual grand. I re-edited some of the velocities to fit the new instrument, and was thrilled with the results. Yeah, it's not a real piano, but it feels right to my ears now.
Most of the reverb was a Waves plug-in added at mastering. But two tracks have some added FX from me ("Stars" uses DP's Stereo Delay, and "Dawn" uses Apple's Matrix Reverb). I'm particularly proud of these two...
