Beat me to it Tim... just read about this. I have Leopard and added the KVR News to my RSS list in the new Mail app and it's great for keeping on top of these things!

I would have payed money for this. It's impressive. I don't really ever use this kind of thing, I'm always a bit afraid of them, but I've got to say it's fun and easy and I like the results on some tracks and mixes. Kind of nice to open things up and just listen for a change.

I also didn't know about RaySpace. I downloaded the demo and I'm blown away by it. Great price, too.

Okay, enough fun. Back to work. I could spend all day checking out plug-ins. I know, I've done it before.

it's not online (yet), but if you've got - or know someone who's got - the Jan. '08 copy of Craig Anderton's EQ magazine, he's got an article on this very technique on pg. 52
DP 9.52(OS 10.13.6), PTools 11.3.3, Sibelius 2021.12,

Another option;

www.soundhack.com has a bunch of useful freeware AU's, one of which is a L/R to Mid/Side (also M/S to Left/Right ) converter with independant level controls.
Guitarists can add more Side channel. Engineers can drop the Middle.
Apart from using it as a spreader you can also use it to EQ and Compress the Mid and Side independantly.
A lot of fun
Cheers, Bolla

I know you're looking for a freebie, but on the off chance you might have T-RackS, (I do), the compressor component has a stereo imaging control. It's not as extreme as some of the others, but I find it does a nice job of being subtle and giving you just that little bit of depth without being too much. I'm sort of believe with things like the stereo imaging plugs that the idea of setting it where you like it and then back it off a little from that is valid. Enhancers and stereoizers scare the hell out of me, because for someone who doesn't know what they're doing (like me!) you can do a lot of damage.

BTW, I bought T-RackS a while back as part of a deal with Classik Studio Reverbs and I find that it's somewhat a much maligned plug, but if you spend some time with it, it's honestly not bad and I can get some pretty decent results with it.

bolla's post reminds me of MAS - MS Decoder.
It works great for stereo expander.
