That sounds cool. I wonder does the input hit the plugin first and then it is recorded?
Could you, for instance, put a LA2A on the vocal during tracking and would it be recorded that way?...or is that an impossibility?
Thanks

Dude-- your fact list is a work of art!! Thanks so much for the generous info.

You've confirmed quite a number of things for me-- like the Fairchild thingy with guitar-- and your Helios description is up for an Emmy!! Priceless.

Sorry if I'm overreacting-- it was just a breath of fresh air to read your rundown. Thanks again!

James,
A sincere word of warning and caution;

Do not under any circumstances demo the Roland space echo or Dimension D unless you're able and prepared to buy them.
You'd likely not survive the frustration.

UAD-1... where do I start?

I'm running a G4 Dual 1.25 with 1.25 gig of ram and a UAD-1 card. I just moved to DP from PTLE and now that music is fun to make again...

I WORSHIP EVERYTHING UA IS DOING!
I have all the stock Plugs except for the Fairchild but have been checking out all the demo's lately in some new tracks. BAD ASS.

I really need to pick up the 1073,1081,Dimension D, Plate140, and new SPL transient AS SOON AS I CAN AFFORD TO!

I just plopped 1600 down for a traveller,DP5 and Mach 5 II, so... gotta regroup then it's on! I need to pick up a 2nd card as well! :)

It depends, there are ways to do this and avoid this. Let's see if I can remember them (meaning: you spot a mistake, you fix me up ;)).

Method 1: Insert effect gets printed during tracking
Create an Aux Track, select appropriate input (singer's mic) and choose a Bus (e.g.: Bus 1) as output. Create an Audio Track (mono or stereo depending on the effect you are planning to print) and select Bus 1 (following my example) as Input. Select Output according to your layout (might be "Main Out 1-2", for example).

Any insert effect placed on the Aux Track will be printed when you arm the Audio Track for recording.

Method 2: Insert effect does not get printed during tracking
Create an Audio Track, choose Input and Output according to your layout. Anything you place on this track as Insert does NOT (if I remember correctly) get printed. The moment you bypass it, you'll hear clean guitars..clean vocals, whatever DRY signal was coming through the mike or analog input you selected.

Basically, printing effects require an Aux Track to be sent into the audio track you are recording. It's a sort of Pre-Aux rather than Post-Aux..which is more often used during mixing etc.

Thanks again! I definitely got the energy and enthusiasm in your post, I am glad I could help. Similar posts helped me out SO MUCH months ago I wanted to keep the inspiration and support flowing ;)

My studio is now entirely UAD-powered, I really love those plugs and I can't say I've heard things with similar "heart and vibe" in other solutions..even PT|HD stuff doesn't quite work the way UAD do..maybe sort of..more mathematic than musical.
