5.1 monitor setup

Post by BaSSic »

I'm thinking about adding a 5.1 surround to my studio. I have a pair of Dynaudio BM-6a active nearfields, but I would like to know if the other three speakers must be identical, or can I buy some other (Dynaudio BM5a). How will this affect the sound. I was also thinking about maybe buying one more BM-6a to have a matched LCR setup, but do I need those two to rear to match or not?
Any advice will help!

They really should be identical, otherwise what you're hearing will not be an accurate representation of what is there.
Thank you,

yeah, that's what I thought. so the setup with different speakers won't be accurate. I was just wondering if I could mix on two (or three) main and then send them to the rest. I don't have much expirience with surround...so I'm not quite sure how that works. It's just that I have to buy a couple of more things (including Apogee Ensemble), so I'm looking for some cost effective way to manage all of this.
Anyway...thanx for reply Brad.
