Mackie Control Universal-Anybody using this with DP yet?

Post by audios »

Ordering the Mackie surface controller because I'm very tired of point & click mixing. And, the CL Cooper/Digi surface controllers are 2nd mortgage stuff. The price is right and the functions/overlays for DP read right. Just curious if anyone out there in DP world likes this box.

good threads. I like the Mackie. I've had great success with their products since they came onto the pro audio scene. We shall see....

They're really easy to set up and use... make sure you use the lexan overlay - DP fully supports the mackie control, there's even a whole chapter devoted to it in the DP 5 manual. Make sure you have the latest firmware for it and use it as a MCU (not motormix). It's not quite as responsive as an ethernet or USB controller, but still pretty solid - and they look great!

It's been pretty easy to setup. I was affraid I would have some problems because I have an old MC first gen as the master section. But it still worked great with my brand new extender. I'll probably get a new Master section as soon as I got the money... anyone wants and old MC master unit?

Sorry James I know we're not supposed to sell anything on here...

have had the MCU since it hit the market way back and the MC before that. Not one complaint - it's been flawless since I first plugged it in. I cannot even contemplate tracking and mixing by mouse. Mousing is a creativity killer for me, the MCU is a great creativity enhancer because it strips out a lot of the tedium of DAW work.

People think of MCU as a mixing board, but it's very valuable for tracking, to really free you up from the damn computer/mouse/keyboard so you can compose and record.

Quite simply the best piece of hardware I've bought, next to maybe the MultiMax. Not one single problem in three years. I just bought a Mackie Extender on eBay, and that rocks too. Easy to set up, and works great. Can't recommend it enough.

Definitely, it lights up nicely and is really intuitive to use. The scroll wheel is invaluable, actually you should be able to do most things via the controller alone. There's the MCU Pros now, but as far as I can tell, the only difference is the way it looks + USB rather than MIDI connectors...
