Sibelius and/or Finale question

Someone is sending me files that were created in Sibelius, and I'd like to open them in Finale. So far the only thing that's worked is for him to send me general MIDI files which I can open in Finale, but I loose all of the dynamic/articulation markings. Any suggestions?

Thanks, it looks interesting. I'll check it out. It's $150 and this project has a tight budget, but it might be something good to have on hand.

I own Dolet and it works pretty well to go from Sibelius to Finale. Certain things don't work too well: drum notation (with x notes, etc.), rhythmic chord slashes (In don't remember about standard quarter note slashes), some text stuff. But lyrics, notes, chord symbols, expression marks etc work pretty well, although you may have to do some tweaking of the layout. Probably worth the money, although I don't remember it being $150. If it's more or less standard notation, it's a lot faster than MIDI files.

That's the price they are showing, but if you need the utility, apparently no one else has come forward with another solution so in that sense it is worth it (assuming it works).

Now that I read this most closely, I may have been looking at this the wrong way. You want to open files made in Sibelius in Finale, right? I believe what will have to happen is that the person who MADE the files in Sibelius will have to buy Dolet 3 for Sibelius. This will turn the files into Music XML files that can be read by Finale. This is the program I own and I know is $129. I believe Dolet 4 for Finale will only MAKE Music XML files, which the person with Sibelius could then read, but not vice versa. However, I don't believe it is necessary exactly to have Dolet 4 for Finale, because any current version of Sibelius 4 or 5 will natively open Finale files, and do an OK job as I recall.

All the stuff I said in my last email applies to that. Otherwise, I don't believe there is any other way to open a Sibelius file in Finale (which is the only way I've done it).
