424 PCIe card not reading 24I/O on new Mac Pro!! - RESOLVED
I think I'm seeing instances of this all over the place. I have a brand new Mac Pro running OS 10/4/11, dual core Xeon.
Went to the expense of getting the PCIe card upgrade ($800), hooking it up to my MOTU 24I/O, only to see the card and the 24 I/O not reading each other. The 44.1 light keeps flashing on my 24 I/O.
This is putting my recording studio at a complete frustrating standstill.
The Mac Pro is seeing the card for sure. I have the most current drivers right off the MOTU web site.
Has anybody figured out the solution to this? Experiencing similar problems?
Has MOTU seen enough of these complaints to do something about it?? Do I have to get another card from them or are all of them faulty?
THANKS.

Welcome! As Site Admin, I'm always pleased to meet new people here, especially those that have one post and found this place because something's not working. I don't think the problem you are experiencing is rampant.
I would suggest all the usual stuff... like repairing permissions. Also I would re-download the Audio Installer and run it again. I remember seeing something about perhaps the installer was changed a little shortly after it first appeared.
I don't think MOTU has seen many of these complaints because I haven't seen many here on this board. If you do a search of the board you can try and see for yourself. You can also get up early in the morning (6am on the West Coast) and call MOTU Tech Support and see if they can get you going.
After you solve your problem I hope you'll stick around our little community here!

Hi James:
I've actually never had a MOTU problem, hence my non-appearance here, which is probably a good thing. However, I do see some people with similar problems with this unit and other hardware, so I know I'm not alone.
Repaired permissions, done. I actually used the Audio Installer from the MOTU web site, not the one on the disk, so I know I've got the current version.
I am going to try moving the card to another slot and see if that does the trick.
But one always has to cast their rope to see if somebody has advice or a similar or identical problem before I call Tech Support. This was my weekend to dive into this Mac Pro upgrade across the board and it has not been entirely hitch-free.
best,
Drew

Sorry to hear that... hope you find a solution.
The idea behind this board is not to just serve as a backup to MOTU tech support, but a place for users to get together and share helpful information and tips for getting the most out of MOTU gear and Digital Performer. So you might stay a while and look around. You might find there's more to the board than getting answers to a particular issue.
Again... good luck and I hope someone can give you some good info.
Well, it's unfortunate that people view this as a place to only come to or post when they have a problem, but it illustrates what some of the users tell others on this board: sometimes you get the impression things don't work well because only the people having problems post.I've actually never had a MOTU problem, hence my non-appearance here...

Dont know if you have sorted this but
!. check that the fire wire connect cable is correctly in the right ports.
Also you have to connect to the first port on the card...
i think this is in the instal instructions take a look through it.
i just changed to intel mac myself.
i got the 24o/i & the 2408mk3

Found the solution on this.
Took all my PCIe cards out of the new Mac Pro. Move the MOTU card to a different slot and started it up -- the software now read the 24I/O. Put in each of the other cards to see if there was any effect -- there was none.
I guess my word of advice is: don't put the new 424 PCIe in slot #4!
THANK YOU to all of your suggestions.

Congrats...
I spent about a month trying to get my 424e card to work in my new macpro and wound up sending it back and buying 3 896's. I just couldn't have my studio not working any longer. I'm glad you got yours to work...I would have rather had the 24 i/o instead.

Hey kukapuwa, fancy seeing you here.
I'm not sure where I read it, but wasn't there a solution involving flicking the 110/240v selector whilst powered down that somehow cured the issue?
EDIT: By "flicking", I mean toggling the switch into the "wrong" position for your power supply and back again.
